If you are looking for a narrative driven game then this is top of my list. The gameplay is a bit slower paced, but the voice acting, graphics, story line, choices are all top notch.

Think Fire Watch in space with slower movement but more options in the narrative. When you make a choice it doesn't just give you 2 lines of different dialogue, there are impacts to the game. That is awesome and makes this one of my favorite games in this genre.

I have not watched the movies or read the books, just wanted to get that out of the way from the top....

This is an awesome game with a ton of stuff to do in it. The map is much bigger than I thought it would be and the locations are detailed as hell. The combat is pretty deep, but not insanely so. Don't come in thinking you are getting some really deep RPG mechanics.

Same thing for the armor / clothing in the game. The gear has stats but it is a very surface level system. That is all ok for me, the game plays really good and everything feels really good and polished. Not having watched the movies, all of the stuff in game is new to me. You can tell that the developer did all they could to cram in as much as they could for the Harry Potter world and it shows.

If you are a fan of the books / movies it will be awesome, and if you don't care about any of that stuff it is still a very good game. If you are interested then jump in, it's pretty good.

A good game with some flaws that will turn some people away.

The gameplay is more ambitious than the first game ( Deliver Us The Moon ) and that cuts both ways. Some sections are more interesting and others are more frustrating. It becomes more frustrating than fun later in the game as they introduce more puzzles but don't explain what is needed to actually complete them.

And not in a " trial and error" more of a " here is a new mechanic but we won't prompt you or tell you what is needed. Just guess and eventually you will run into the answer."

The story is well written for the most part, but it can be ham-fisted and really just beats you over the head with the morality of situations at points. Again, not a terrible game but definitely a step below the original. Sometimes less is more, and this game definitely needed less in some areas to polish up others.

TLDR: Get it on sale if you are interested. Probably worth like 20 bucks, but the combat sucks bad.


I really wanted to love this game. Dead Space 1 and 2 are in my top 10 games of all time, and this looked like a spiritual successor. Sadly it is just not good. Visually it is amazing, the graphics are among the best out there. Ray tracing is mind blowing. But that is about where the good stuff ends.

On release it was buggy and stuttering like crazy. Devs were very fast about patching it up to run better, but it was a sign. The only version that ran well was PS5. So a console with less power than my PC can run it fine..... not good.

Even with multiple patches and performance pretty ironed out ( still some stuttering but very minimal right now, will probably get better in the next month ) the combat is just not good. You basically have to rely on melee since it is survival horror. Ammo is there but not plentiful. Ok, that sounds good, except the combat is so bad. Like really bad. You have a dodge, but instead of a button it is linked to leaning. So you dodge right by moving ( leaning ) right. This makes sure that your character is locked onto an enemy, so it can know which way to lean. That all breaks down when you have 2 or 3 enemies coming at you. The camera will lock onto 1 enemy and so the others will just hammer you to death. And death comes fast.

And then there is the level design. This is basically a corridor shooter. Most of the areas are no bigger than a hallway. Most likely to help with the graphics, it is easier to do amazing lighting and textures when the world is so small. But it just doesn't feel good to play in. Just walk down a hallway, fight a few enemies and then open a door.

Then there is the shimmy. Oh My God.... This game has almost no loading screens at all, so awesome right? wrong. No loading screens means that your character has to squeeze through a small opening / pry open a door / shimmy through a tight space like all the time. This is obviously a way to let the game load a new area. But holy hell, it feels like you are doing it every 10 minutes. Just constant shimmy. It would be like playing Mass Effect 1 and instead of a loading screen once in a while you had to ride the elevator every 10 minutes. It is just bad.

Overall it isn't a terrible game, it is just a disappointment. I wanted this to be a new Dead Space. I went back to the original Dead Space just to see if I am crazy and it is so sad. A game that is over a decade old is better than this. Dead Space is still king, Callisto Protocol feels like a generic knock off that had extra money for graphics.

This is a very relaxing, very fun game. The entire game is about making more. You get sucked in and you want to make just a little more oxygen, just a little more heat, just a little more plant life. Then it is 3 am and you have been playing for 6 hours without a break.

This is definitely early access, but also well worth the price to get in. There is an amazing foundation here and with time and updates this is going to be an amazing game. If you base your game quality on how much time spent, I have about 20 hours on my main save and still am not finished with everything in the game. I have explored the entire map, found most of the secrets and built nearly all the current tech. This game just keeps going and I can't stop playing it.

I have played for 8 hours, just got to the castle, and I am in love with this game. Are there performance issues? Yes. I know that it is going to hit some set ups harder than others.

What I always do with all my games is turn off Motion Blur and Depth of Field immediately. This seems to have helped my playtime because while I have seen some slowdowns, I haven't anything like what people are sharing.

The game itself is so good, my favorite out of the series. I am not saying that performance doesn't matter, it really really does in a Souls game. What I am saying is that I have played 8 hours and I want to play 100 more hours of this, even with the performance.

This is after the 1.06 hotfix ( Christmas 2020 ) and I can say I logged in 99 hours. Are there bugs, yes. Did this game need another 2 months of fixes, apparently. Is it a good game on PC? YES.

I love this game, and if you enjoyed Deus Ex, or even Skyrim then this is going to be a great game. It isn't the deepest RPG and it isn't the best writing. You are getting a game that probably in all honesty would be a 8.7 out of 10 if it shipped without any bugs or glitches.

Hopefully they can get this all sorted out and have a great 2021 with DLC and a great working game. Of the 99 hours I have spent with it I don't regret a minute. I am currently running around the city trying to clean up all the small side missions and mini crimes to just level up to max and gather resources to max out my guns.


Seriously, if you loved Deus Ex and Skyrim then this is going to be your jam, on PC anyway.

HELP!!!

Alright, so I actually just spent an hour trying to get this to work and here is what worked for me.

Launch Origin (I f****** hate origin) and at the top select origin and go into "offline" mode. This will solve the issue of the game freezing from the get go. Now you have to stop it from freezing at the DMV.

Once the intro cinematic finishes it will dump you into the DMV to take a pic for your license. Well this was made for console crap webcams so it WILL NOT WORK ON WINDOWS!

You have to basically disable anything that your PC would consider a web cam. That includes capture cards. I had to disable my Elgato for it to not crash. If it keeps crashing at the DMV part that means that there is still something that your system considers a webcam and will try to use it. Go into your Windows settings, head over to devices and look for anything that either records video or captures video. That means webcams, capture cards, ANYTHING.

hopefully this helps anyone having issues. I have been playing it for like 20 minutes now and it is great. I know it is locked 60 fps, but I am still a console scrub at heart.

UPDATE: It is now November 2024 and we are in the replay expeditions to top off an insanely great year. We got the Worlds Part 1 update in July and it totally revamped the world generation and completely changed water. It is something I didn't think we would ever see in the game and it is so mind blowing. In addition they have added ship building to the game, so you can now build your own ship and choose the colors. At this point I can't think of anything more I want from No Man's Sky, but they are still adding more! And, still 8 years later, every content update is totally free. Definitely worth every penny and a game that I will forever play, now with over 2000 hours just here.

UPDATE: It is now November 2023 and we are waiting on the next update or Expedition Replays. This year felt more scattered than previous years. More updates focused on platforms vs content. But overall an awesome year again. Still no charge for all the extra content given out which is mind blowing over 7 years later. Amazing game and at this point more than worth the price. It is starting to feel like we are reaching the end of new content or maybe I just can't think of anything new I would love to have in the game. Still amazing and I am getting close to 2,000 hours of play time. Probably a sign you should give it a shot if you haven't.....

UPDATE: It Is now November 2022 and the Expedition Replays have started. This year was a bit rocky with the community, but it is still the best game I have played. The Waypoint 4.0 update changed a lot of fundamentals, which people hated. I think they were needed changes that benefit the game. The only thing that worries me is that this was the first update in a very long time that felt unfinished, like it was incomplete but they had a deadline to meet. More issues / bugs than normal were reported and also features added in after the fact in a patch ( super charge slots ) feels like they didn't have time to finish it so they released it knowing that within the month it would be done. Who knows what that means, but it was a stumble from an amazing studio. Maybe they have finally met the limitation of the size of their team, with working on a Switch version and PSVR2 while creating a big overhaul update. I just hope they get rest over the holidays and 2023 is back to amazing updates.

UPDATE: It is now April 2022 and we have just had 2 combat updates, one for on foot combat and the most recent for space combat. This game keeps getting better and better. We are on our 20th FREE update. If you are on the fence then jump in, you will probably love the game.

UPDATE: It is now November of 2021 and there are now 18 FREE updates for this game. If this isn't the best come back story then I have no idea what is. If you are thinking of getting it JUST DO IT!!!

Original Review:

I have played since the NEXT update on Xbox One and fell in love. The fact that they have been updating for the past 3 years ( at the time of review ) and everything has been for free is a testament to how much they love their community. Is it perfect? No. Does it keep getting better with every update? YES!


If you are into survival crafting games then give this a whirl. There is some basic story stuff that will walk you through the basics and give you 15 hours or so of directional content. After that it is all up to you. Think Minecraft with a universe to travel and a ton to explore and build. Top 5 games of the last 10 years.

Nearly perfect. I went in expecting the normal EA bs, but was pleasantly surprised. Feels like a mix of Assassins Creed with Dark Souls, and I am digging it. I wish that there were cards and achievements, but it is what it is. Worth the price of admission ( at least at launch, please don't jack this game later with microtransactions )
