I don't know how I made it 44 years without realizing I needed a video game that allowed me to play as a cat. My life is now complete.

We may never get Left 4 Dead 3, but we have Back 4 Blood so I'm good.

It may not be Portal 3, but I'd feel comfortable calling it Portal 2.01. Three enthusiastic thumbs up! Fine holiday fun!

Early Access Review
While I'd say they have a lot to do before this game is ready to leave early access, they're off to a pretty amazing start.

It's basically Tomb Raider with light sabers.

This is one of the most ridiculous games that I just can't stop playing!

Update: 4 years later... still a very fun game. Unfortunately the community has become much more toxic, and the servers are much less stable since Epic took over, but overall the game is still a blast to play.

It's a Bethesda game, and it's a Fallout game, so expect bugs and quirks. However, in my nearly 400 hours in the game, I have experience far fewer bugs and/or crashes than any previous Fallout game. It's by far the most stable one I've played yet.

The game itself is massive. If you love immersing yourself in the Fallout world, and just losing yourself in the wasteland, then this game is for you. Yes, there are some nit-picky things that I wish they hadn't changed, or that they had done differently, but all things considered, it's a Fallout game, and I loved it. I could get lost in the settlement building for months alone.

The one real complaint that I have about the game are the choices that they present you with. Most of the major plot points involve very extreme actions with no middle ground, even though there are some very obvious, logical compromises that could have been made. Instead, the choices are more like "murder these hundreds or thousands of people, OR murder those hundreds or thousands of people.

Overall, I'd give the game 4 out of 5 stars.

I preordered the game for $45 and the season pass for $23 and they were both easily worth every penny.

If you like headshots and/or bullet time, you'll love this game. The duels are a little tough to get the hang of, but everything else was pretty simple.

This game also has a pretty good story with a really fun storytelling style. The ending even gave me chills.

My only complaint is that the game is a little short. I finished the campaign in about 9 hours, and I tend to take my time exploring and looking for collectibles.

I personally think it's worth the $14.99 price tag, but because of the length, some might want to wait for a sale.

I paid $3.74, and it was way more than worth it.

This is actually a really fun game once you get into it. It's a little confusing at first because they don't do a very good job of teaching you what you're supposed to do next, or even how to do it sometimes, but once you get the hang of the game, it's actually a lot of fun. The only thing missing is co-op play.

UPDATE: I have now finished the game, so here's an updated review...

I only have 2 main complaints about the game. First, as I said above, it does a pretty bad job of telling you how to do stuff. You have to figure out a lot of things on your own (which I guess could be considered "realistic" in a zombie apocalypse).

The second is that it's really light on storyline missions. The side missions are pretty much constantly becoming available (kill this, deliver that, save this guy, clear that infestation, etc.), but they get a little repetitive toward the end of the game since the storyline missions are so sparse.

As for gameplay, you don't play as a single survivor. You play as all of them, and level up their skills separately. When one gets tired or injured, you can switch to another one. Your survivors can also die, get infected, or freak out and kill themselves (or others), but you can also find new survivors take in around the world.

Your home base (which can be moved to other locations if you want) has slots for building various structures like a med center, guard tower, crafting area, kitchen, etc. Each home location has different numbers of building slots, and require a different number of survivors to maintain.

Depending on the number of survivors and outposts, your base consumes resources each day (food, meds, ammo, building materials, fuel), so you always have to be on the lookout for more. On top of that you need to keep your survivors stocked with weapons, food, meds and ammo that they use while they're out killing zombies.

Overall, it's a really fun game that has a ton of potential. They just didn't quite live up to it with this one. Hopefully State of Decay 2 will be amazing.

If you can find it on sale, I do recommend trying this game out.

I paid $4.99.

This game is so much fun! It's a perfect blend of strategy and action. Strategically place traps and the shoot the crap out of the massive hordes.
