If your favorite puzzle game is Stephen's Sausage Roll like me, you'll love how this game mirrors that design style.

I've always believed that simple mechanics that lead to simple (yet complex) puzzle design is the way to create a good puzzle game, and Can of Wormholes perfectly encapsulates that.

Gambling

Game just doesn't respect your time.

Fast traveling between already unlocked islands is an incredibly expensive upgrade so prepare for minutes of just flying in a straight line to/from your destination. Parts to customize your plane must be repurchased each time. Realize you dislike what you just brought? Well you better have extra cash to swap back to the old one. This makes experimenting with new parts and plane designs, what should be the game's bread and butter, an expensive slog.

Don't get me wrong the art direction of Brew Barons is great. It's a playable world of seaplanes and sky pirates which we all imagined watching Porco Rosso. But the systems that should support gameplay actively detract from it and everything is weighed down by minutes of monotonous travel between bouts of actually playing the game.

Don't think it was the best idea to release this into early access. Closed betas likely would've done more good for collecting focused feedback and avoiding the early access curse.

I bought this day 1 to support the developers vision. Rough as it is right now the design and art direction is incredible. Optimization is the biggest hurdle it faces and the bad publicity from such an early launch isn't going to help in the long term. I wouldn't recommend the Forever Winter in it's current state unless you want to support the developers.

Ever had a game you just loved to play but the developers seemed intent on running it into the ground? Helldivers was like that after launch with Arrowhead and the community at odds over every update bringing more nerfs. At time of writing things seem to have finally taken a turn for the better with a change in balance policy putting fun first and reversing previously falling player numbers.

I failed geometry

The mechanics at play here are honestly amazing, super fluid and natural after about an hour of playtime, feels like what a multiplayer Getting Over It would be.

Highly recommended for a good challenge.
