The translation is rough, there are a bunch of possible crashes, but if you manage to get past those issues, you end up with an interesting dungeon crawler. I was especially surprised by the story, which was pretty bold so far and has some good ideas writing-wise. I don't know a lot about dungeon crawlers, but this one has enough ideas when it comes to dungeon puzzles and hazards to keep me entertained for now. The RPG system is robust, you can play around with a good number of systems, be they gear and skills and their upgrades, classes, party formations or the partner system. The combat system is made interesting by threats not only coming from enemies, but your own party as well via the Massacre and Blood Skelter system. Personally, I also like the art design a lot, but that's more of a question of taste. Be wary that this is a Switch port, which means the art assets are made for a 720p resolution (the PC release could've really used a proper in-game upscale!). I recommend using the external program Magpie to upscale the game. Especially the character images will look blurry otherwise (see Graciaus' review for details). You might also want to create a file called Minigame.dat in your game directory to re-add a minigame that was censored from the original PC release (see iriyap's review for details). And as others have pointed out, this game contains Mary Skelter: Nightmares (the first game), which you unlock after finishing the game (or via the DLC menu, if I understood correctly). So buy this one if you wanna play both.

Someone thought, "what happens if I combine Desperados with Fallout 1 & 2 and Divinity: Original Sin and turn the result into an immersive sim", and this game came out the other end of that thought process.

As someone who doesn't like roguelikes unless they have a really heavy metagame, Rogue Legacy 2 is perfect for me. There's even an NPC that allows turning off the auto-generation of the dungeon (though the latter is of course a big part of what makes these games interesting). I was also suprised by how many of the classes are fun for me to play. In other roguelikes, I'd just stick to one or two characters/classes/weapons, but RL2's classes all offer something unique while at the same time making them fun to play. The only ones I've had an issue with are ranged classes that require aiming, as that's a bit hard to pull of on a controller for me, but switching to M+KB makes playing them a whole lot easier (I do prefer classes I can play with the gamepad, though). I can see people sinking a lot of time into this one.

Too much open world busy work, too few well-written quests. It's just another open world game at the end of the day. On top of that, it somehow didn't manage to motivate like its predecessor did. DL1 also wasn't exactly a storytelling beast, but at least its functional story didn't get in the way of the fun combat and levelling process. The latter didn't quite hit the mark with me in DL2, as well, though I can't 100% tell you why. It might just be that having to unlock stuff I already had available to me at the end of DL1 just feels like a chore now. Makes sense for tools like the grappling hook from a game design standpoint, doesn't make as much sense for movement abilities. Not giving players the hook immediately forces them to understand their parkour abilties and get better at moving through the city on foot. Locking away the movement abilities themselves behind a levelling process just cripples the fluidity of the gameplay and prevents that learning process from hapenning. Combat is still fun, parkour is still fun, but the rest of the game gets in their way when its poor story holds you up or when the game screams "you haven't unlocked the ability or faction zone control to properly maneuver this yet" in your face.

One of those few games I'm willing to suffer through technical inadequacies for because what lies beyond them is incredibly good. I was skeptical about the open world, but can say that it works excellently. Didn't think a Dark Souls-style game would lend itself to a high degree of freedom of exploration like this, but it does. If you're on the fence about the technical issues, definitely wait for patches (not that one). The game isn't going anywhere and with the state the multiplayer is in currently, you're not missing out on that end anyways.
