Even losers like Chai can be awesome if you just have confidence. And this game oozes confidence in what it is and what it's trying to be. Once you get the hang of it, you feel as cool playing it as Chai thinks he is.

This is not your average post-2006 Sonic fare. Don't approach this game the way you would another Sonic game - trying to race to a goal post. This game is a collect-a-thon - think of the zones in more the way you would think of a level in Super Mario Sunshine.
The game got ticketed as "open world", but I think that's also a very misleading concept in this game. They're large and non-linear, but you're the blue blur - the speed that you can run around them makes it not a chore to get across the map in a hurry.
The worlds are filled with platforming mini-challenges that are simply addicting to go through. It began to give me a kind of Tetris effect where I was lying down and I would just picture Sonic parkour-ing around through an endless series of objects.
The writing is good! It stands on it's own as a pretty solid story, but if you're at all invested in the longer story of Sonic, you *need* to experience the story of this game. Each of Sonic's buddies in this game get a healthy amount of characterization as well, which is very refreshing to see - the Sonic franchise has such a colorful cast of characters that it's a shame they've been seemingly stagnant or irrelevant for such a long time.

It's Snake in 3D. If you're looking for Crazy Taxi this doesn't totally hit the mark (there's a lack of depth in controls) but you'll still have a bit of fun bouncing around the walls. Some of the maps are really well designed to keep you spinning over the same ground and make you deal with the Snake. I'd say it's well worth $5 on sale.

the shiny objects aren't shiny 0/10

Getting this game when it was free, I feel like I've stolen something precious. This game is outright awesome. I would gladly go back in time and pay for it, maybe I'll buy a copy for a friend.
