This game will forever be in my top 10 personal favourites

The story, the characters, the action and all of the underlying references and similarities to real world happenings
It never overstepped it's purpose and allowed a lot of gaps to be filled in by the player.

It's satisfying to achieve as many of the endings as possible - whilst admittedly tedious at going back through some of the levels which have no effect on outcomes; no section overstays its' welcome after numerous playthroughs (and with the help of a few 'tricks', you can bypass some speeches and moments you don't fancy seeing again.

The graphical and audio technology for it's time is still brilliant - I remember when this got first announced as a Playstation exclusive and being jealous, until it finally came out for us

Now my main gripe is the excess crashes and failures to start - Deleting both Overlay(dot)JSON files from the Steam directory whilst disabling Steam Overlay worked a charm (had to do this upon every boot of Steam)
The crashes however were just super random at times for me; busy action or quiet moment; no rhyme nor reason
But the game tended to have a quicksave no more than 5-10 minutes prior, so it was rarely a huge hassle.

Achievement Hunting this was fun - I required about 3 guides; 1 for the last 2 magazines I hadn't found, 1 for an ending I couldn't obtain and 1 to ensure Connor died enough times (it's so hard for him to die the required amount without actively trying to force it)

I should have waited for Stronghold Crusader DE instead.

Don't take away our Skirmish Mode. (I know it was communicated beforehand)

Every mode feels the same without skirmish, I was always a bigger Crusader player (Unit Variety > Choice between wood or stone walls)

Thought I'd still give it a go for nostalgia, just feels like a slog waiting about

Same bugs from initial game - Some AI stands about at the signpost and you have to hunt them down before victory will show up

EDIT: I'd already said I knew about it being communicated before release that Skirmish wasn't to be included from launch - As the original also didn't have it (we all still held our breath that it would've been patched in later down the line, Crusader wasn't "that" different surely?)

I would've easily given this a neutral review if Steam had the option; I just felt as a returning player I had dissuade people from getting this and to wait for Crusader to re-released instead - In my opinion (Crusader still has a campaign etc, it just didn't have wooden structures or the attack vs defence mode; but it had more units and AI skirmishes instead)

If my only complaint after nearly 20 hours is that I can't fire without aiming down sights, then damn.

Ticks all the boxes in regards to difficulties, enemy variation, all of the different RPG elements and the loot you get is rather self explanatory (if not, head back to Ward 13 and find out what you need to do with it)
ALSO, it has puzzles, and puzzle/weakspot bosses.
AND the worlds are all different and atmospheric (also a + for graphics/performance, neither are groundbreaking but they're absolutely spot-on)
AND you can pet the dog

Oh, the only other "gripe" is maybe having to figure out how to unlock/do so many different things in so many different ways, game rewards you for putting time and thought into it, who would'a known?

It being fully drop-in/drop-out Co-op is the cherry on top.

I really do enjoy playing the game

But I couldn't happily recommend it to anyone if you take into consideration the price, performance issues and rather short and easy story

If it ever comes on offer after more performance fixes have been patched in, then sure - go ahead

Microtransactions are in numerous games nowadays - No, it's not a great look; but the choice is purely your own, there's nothing locked behind a paywall that will lessen your playing experience

It's overall a fun game - Plenty to do and explore, along with a few cool cutscenes and moments

In it's current state (11 March 24) I can't recommend this to anyone

It's 2023, with some fun new added features, but the majority of things seem to now be broken

Will hopefully update this with more specific information when things are fixed/patched

(Updating for Steam Awards)

After the success and improvement of 2k22, 2k23 picks up where it left off and improves little details on each gamemode; More in-depth MyGM, 2 seperate MyRise stories, better animations & graphics

There are negatives obviously other than the pricetag; still same old bugs (and newer ones), a lack of creation options - specifically for entrances and Universe Mode seemingly needing fixing with hopefully a quick patch or 2 (the AI prebooking seems to take no notice of your match preference - only seems interested in rivalries, leading to the same match 8 weeks in a row)

I'd still only give the game 3/5 Stars or a 7/10 Rating, but it's better than what we've been used to, lets not act spoiled considering where we were before 2k22

Play the demo, that's about the only good part

It feels like the game was developed by 2 contrasting companies - one who wanted to make a Mystery Noir story and another who wanted a political, lovecraftian story - This derailed the whole buildup of the first few chapters

Hope nobody forgets this came out in 2022 when choosing their Game of the Year
