This game is exceptionally fun. It's a kind of not-quite-roguelike reminiscent of Dead Rising's "you're always making character progress even if your run ends" system. It's actually quite forgiving in that regard, and also has several extremely useful assistance options if you're not hardcore into the progression or whatever. The enemies feel fair and balanced with clear tells, the combat itself is fun without being frustrating, every time you reach a campfire "safe point" you have the option of restoring your health or delving into a dungeon and skipping the heal, loads of risk and reward for those who want it and the ability to ignore that for people who don't.

The art is all excellent, zero complaints. The inspiration is clear (and I mean, the title is one word away from being "Metal Gear" anyway), but it all comes together consistently and prettily. I was getting pretty into the music, it complements the game well and really helped hold my attention.

The story is serviceable. Feels a little anime in a bad way for a while, but then it starts picking up toward the end of episode 3. It's not really why you're here after the tutorial, anyway. I'm a little bit invested, but really I'm playing because it's a bit of a breath of fresh air amidst games that all want to copy the worst features of games built in the 80s. None of it is all that forced onto the player, but it's there if they want it.

After having played both The Medium and Observer, I've come to the conclusion that Bloober Team can't write a story that doesn't involve an awful, unfulfilling ending (they both suck and one of them is a cliffhanger) to what is otherwise a very interesting premise. The game was awesome and the lead-up to the ending was great, and then it just kinda spits in your face.

Fantastic base for a kart racer with some notable indie characters. I got this game on sale for $5.39, and that was a steal. The game is still in early access, and I'm excited to see where it goes in the future...if it goes anywhere, since the last update was March 29th, 2022. Fun game, though!

Edit: Looks like the developer responded about development last month, so it looks like we're good to go! Buy this!

As a longtime Half-Life fan, this mod gave me everything I wanted in a sequel and more. It astounds me that this was made by fans and released for free. It has heart and soul that I didn't even find in Half-Life: Alyx and it's made me realize that even if Valve does finally continue from Episode 2, it won't be able to live up to this, let alone the expectations that will be laid down for it.

Great, albeit fairly short, action-packed western shooter with a fun "unreliable narrator" storytelling style and decent plot overall. Only annoying thing is how much setup I had to do before starting proper. I launched the game, had to quit to find out how to skip the intros and change the FOV. Went back in, had to leave to figure out how to disable the artistic border. Turns out, there's letterboxing even after disabling that, so I had to quit and turn that off too. None of these are settings in-game, by the way, they're all done in a config file.

It's alright. I've played better RPGs and this game gets enough praise that I wasn't planning on reviewing it any time soon, but it's getting review bombed by Russian bots and I, on the other hand, don't particularly support invading a country full of innocent people and neither do CDPR.

As a singleplayer game, I'm sure it's great. It has fantastic bones and the physics work as they should with no major bugs or anything that ruin the experience. It's a little vehicle-based collectathon with LEGO/Besiege-style building and it could be a lot of fun. It has other modes, like racing, but I didn't jump into that.

As a co-op game, which is how I attempted to play it, it's not good. Connection and whatever worked fine, but the fault is in how the gameplay was adapted for multiplayer.

Within minutes of playing in the campaign I was hosting, my friend got a bit of salvage lodged in a rock. I found a button to reset the salvage so that we could try to move it again, better this time. Problem solved, right? No. Because someone else had touched the salvage, the feature just didn't work. It tells me that someone else is trying to collect it and that it can't reset it. Didn't matter that I was the host, didn't matter that we were ALL trying to get it, didn't matter that it was stuck with no way to move it. There was no way to fix it other than to tell my friends "go touch a different piece of salvage so I can reset this." Less than an hour later, some salvage rolled into the ocean. Since we're very early game and the game will continually kick the player out of a seat if it goes underwater, that meant no submarines to get it out and we were back in the exact same situation. By this point, we gave up and quit.

You might say "well, why don't you just have people call dibs on their salvage and everyone just collect stuff separately, but still benefiting everyone?" The answer is because it won't benefit everyone. Despite being labelled as "co-operative," the only way everyone can collect salvage is by driving up, touching it, and remaining within 200m of it as it gets collected by someone else. It's an incredible pain for no good reason and, once again, being the host doesn't matter, you cannot change this. This same thing is a problem when it comes to map visibility, as friends cannot explore it for you, and if I had to guess, it probably works this way for nearly anything you can unlock.

It totally ruins the campaign and basic co-operative gameplay it should have. I would be far more forgiving if it was still in early access and they had plans to allow for different styles of gameplay, but as it stands, it makes having people in your game more of an unfun obstacle than the absolute blast it could've been. Truly tragic, do not be fooled by the "Online Co-Op" tag on the store page, it's a horrible co-op experience.

The dollar-per-hour proposal is great here. You're paying $40 for (at the time of writing) two games with the promise of FOUR (or five, if you count Halo 2 Anniversary being separate from Halo 2, but I'm not going to) more, the next one coming a month from now. Even if you only play through the campaign of each game, that's on average eight hours per game, for a total of around 48 hours. While that doesn't say anything of quality per game, do you really need me to? This franchise was a system seller for years, everyone and their dog who had an Xbox or Xbox 360 had these. Sure, there are a handful of technical issues with the ports and a few gameplay changes of debatable quality, but at their core, these are still the same Halo games people knew and loved.

...It'd be great if they'd hurry up and put out Forge already, though.

This game is unintentionally hilarious to roleplay with friends in, with an added bonus of strategy.

I'm gonna be honest, it's hard for me to give this a thumbs-up review, but I think it's good enough for one, at least while it's in Early Access. If it pops out any time soon in the current state it's in, I'll try and remember to change the thum to down. I've been wanting a game like this since I got my Rift. Blaring my music, weaving through traffic at high speeds, the environment reacting to the beat, and so much of a visual overload that I forget I'm driving. In those respects, the game is fantastic. Pretty much all I could've hoped for, it's like I'm driving through the middle of a Windows Media Player visualizer, and that's where the thumbs-up comes from.

That said, I'm refunding it. I can't stand the driving. The driving physics are all kinds of wonky. It's like if Sonic the Hedgehog was first-person and tank controls. Wherever you aim, you go, at high speeds, without even a hint of losing grip (unless you're playing in drift mode, in which case good luck getting any grip in the first place, you're in a land-boat). I've played for just over half an hour, and I've got a headache. Sure, it might be the pretty colors and flashes (probably not though), or it's that the car feels so much like I just turned on smooth turning in a game, which is known to hurt my eyes and give me a headache. It doesn't really stop there, either. I don't own a driving wheel, so I played this with a controller. Because the game is so little like driving, the sticks feel so incredibly oversensitive. You can use about 20% of the x axis without the car flying into a wall. Maybe I'm underestimating, but it certainly didn't feel that way with my Rift on. Oh, and from what I can tell, there's no way to reverse, so if you hit a car at a bad angle and go into a wall, you're sitting there until you end the song or it ends on its own. Maybe there is one, I dunno, but I didn't see it and it's bound to a weird key, if it exists.

TL;DR:

The big takeaway of this is if you want a nice sensory overload to help you relax a bit, give it a shot. You can always refund it if you hate it. If you want a DRIVING game, you should probably pass this up. 10/10 aesthetics, 2/10 gameplay. Maybe some day eventually I'll check it out again and this 6/10 overall will suddenly be a hidden 10/10 must-play gem, but that's not right now. It's more of an experience than a game.
