Early Access Review
Early access is all well and good, but I definitely feel like access THIS early in development is only going to hurt the game in the long term.

There isn't much gameplay to be had, and the gameplay that is there just isn't very polished quite yet. The player character feels good to control. Responses are snappy, and spells feel like they chain together nicely. Combat overall feels pretty dissatisfying however, as enemy movements are very stiff and abrupt. I don't mind the new art style, but steps should be made to translate the clear intentions and movements of enemies from the older style to this new one if the developer wants to keep the feel of what made Wizard of Legend 1 so great.

The voiceover is nothing short of jarring. Every character sounds out of place or overly emphasized, and the audio doesn't feel like it's mixed well by default. I found myself messing with the audio levels almost immediately, and completely muting the dialogue about 30 or 40 minutes in. Some other reviews have said things about the voiceover as well, claiming to laugh at it or other demeaning remarks. There are many potential reasons why the voiceover could be missing the mark, so I really hope that if any of the actors see this or other comments, they'll take this criticism in a way that isn't at all saying "all the actors suck" or something similar. That being said, I do genuinely hope that the final product can get some second takes from the actors, and get the audio sounding more polished.

UI elements definitely need to be improved, and UI features could be much more player-friendly. Starting the game with "Pick one of these" with nothing but pictures of elements to go off of leaves a bad first impression, and giving the player nothing but a brief text description of items and spells should definitely be elaborated on. It felt very bad to purchase a new spell with the limited gems you start with and immediately see it has very low damage, or didn't work the way it sounded like it would. Coming to the realization that unlocking permanent versions of spells would only allow you to pick from a very small handful of options chosen for you instead of choosing from a list yourself also just felt very limiting.

Lastly, and most sadly of all, I feel like I've seen almost everything the game currently has to offer in the one hour of time I put into it. Outside of a few enemy types, a few bosses, and a small pool of spells to try out, there's not much here quite yet.

I absolutely loved Wizard of Legend 1, I'm very interested in this game, and I'll be keeping an eye on it as development continues. For now however? The one hour sneak preview of what may be a good game some time in the future just isn't worth the price to check it out.
