Phenomenal visuals, fun classes, and overall improvements from PoE1. 100% worth the early access buy.

Early Access Review
This game is a fantastic compilation of Heart Machine's previous games. Attack style / combat from Hyper Light Drifter and movement from Solar Ash Kingdom. The game lore is told through the comic-like style of HLD.

In its current state (EA Release), there's a lot that needs work. The game is very brutal when starting. Certain runs feel like you're starting at the 15 minute mark in Risk of Rain, without the appropriate gear to combat the difficulty. The tutorials also leave something to be desired, as most of what you learn about the game is done through hours of trial and error which will leave you well beyond the refund window. If that doesn't sound like something you want to get into, I would strongly recommend waiting on more updates.

A few things that took some time to understand / pet peeves are below (mostly directed at the devs):

The language on how to get your first medkit slot is "adds an additional medkit slot". You don't start with a medkit slot, so this was very confusing to me. How can I add another slot, if I never had one?

The UI and prompts need some work. Pressing 3 different buttons to get a run started can be pretty frustrating. I feel like having a specific button to modify your current loadout shouldn't be necessary (though I understand this is the way you can change your character). It seems like it would be easier to click on a slot and be brought to the vault menu.

Movement and camera also needs some work. There's been more than once when I'm on a run where the camera will zip around and I'll eat a ton of damage because its facing the wrong way. Getting stuck on small objects or walls can also be frustrating.

Finally, the death screen feel especially painful at you see items getting knocked off once at a time. Being able to expedite this, or skip this screen would be awesome. "Rez Activated" screen feels like a massive waste of my time with how long you're staring a boring/frustrating graphic. Yeah, I get it I died. I don't need to stare at it for 10-30 seconds. A lot of this feels like getting kicked while you're down, and is bound to turn people off.

Finally, the more I play this game, the more addicted I get. The gameplay loop is fun (when you get the hang of it) and the potential is very high for this to be an excellent game. Keep doing what you're doing Heart Machine!

Hades with a Void Bastards look and feel. Most of the weapons feel great, and there's very little left to be desired!

I had my doubts about this game being any kind of improvement on the first, or if I wanted to revisit the first game at all. I was wrong.

If you are a big fan of sci-fi, you will love this game. You can pick up on the heavy influence of Dune as well as Star Trek on this game. The story was absolutely fantastic, and the gameplay was interesting. If you're a fan of FTL and looking for something more grid based and story driven, then go no further! Strongly recommend.

Lost Caves is a short but sweet spelunking adventure. I had a great time exploring the caves while jamming out to some bangers. Great design and loads of fun! $0.99 is a steal.

I'd like to reiterate what has been said before about this game. First, I'd say the game has at least a solid 40-60 hours of gameplay making it well worth the price.
Overall, though, I think this game is a huge improvement on Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. I've replayed FFT many times over with/out various mods to get the most out of an incredibly solid game. When I play this game I get the same feeling I got when I first played FFT, and I feel I will be coming back to it often (especially with the enticing new DLC around the corner).

If you loved FFT as much as I did, I strongly recommend you to buy this game.
