This is a good community mod for portal, and the fact that the dev's made this free despite working on it for 8 years is absolutely praiseworthy. I'd recommend this on that fact on it's own.

The game is set between the two portal titles, and follows the interim before chell's reawakening and reactivation of Glados. The puzzles are very nice and engaging and has just the right amount of difficulty. I liked the new ideas added such as the vacuum tubes and bluetooth laser cubes. The environmental design is pretty authentic and also feels new as well, together with the surface levels.

My main gripes are concerning the story and characters. Of course as this is a mod, a certain amount of leeway should be given. But i've constantly heard praises about the plot and i have to say it kind of let me down. I didn't really like the two cores that accompany you and the spire idea seemed kind of mundane. Honestly it's not a bad story, its just pretty average. It's supposed to provide a new perspective on what happened between the two games but it didn't really have any weight to it. The reason why im so critical of this aspect is because as i've said i've heard a lot of good comments on the story and also i think that what makes the series memorable is the story and especially the character's and their dialogue. Stirling seemed like a watered down and annoying version of wheatley, that's not to say that wheatley isnt annoying but he always had a certain charm together with his attitude. Emilia is okay, nothing else really to say about her.

Now you're probably wondering why im recommending the game if i've wrote a whole paragraph just berating the story and writing. Well to cut it short, i realize a mod of this scope shouldnt really be expected to deliver a studio-like game. They might not have nailed the story but the gameplay and overall atmosphere is fun enough to keep you playing. Its apparent that the dev's really do like portal and have reflected that very well in these areas. If you like portal, you should definitely try this out and support the dev's for their part in keeping the community alive.

Probably one of my favourite games if not my favourite of all time. I cannot express how much i appreciate this game. It is genuinely unique in that you cannot find a puzzle game like this anywhere else. Im so sad that Valve never continued this franchise except with mini vr games. Ive played it over countless times and each time i always found something new to appreciate.

This is going to be more of my personal journey with this game rather than an in depth and objective review.

My first interaction with this game came from a very small time youtuber called Adkit2. I had previously watched his two LP's on the return to the mysterious island series, which were childhood treasures to me. After that i came across his LP of this mysterious game called Portal 2. It caught my interest as i watched him and his friend Eldric struggle and troll through the test chambers. I got hooked and i wanted more. Presumably soon after, i discovered a singleplayer LP of this game from another small time youtuber called trasknari. (Both the aforementioned channels have been dead for a few years now) I remember watching his LP and throughly enjoying it as much as the coop, and i probably watched it once more at some point. Even as i play today i can still remember some of his quips after certain events and dialogue. Some time after, i tried to download this game on my dad's macbook. Of course since i was a stupid kid back then i failed miserably and i accidentally broke his laptop somehow by doing so. So yea, not a great first attempt.

With the shortage of portal content, i watched a couple of fan films on youtube. And a particular one from Synthetic Picturehaus about Doug Rattman has never left my mind. Its a great short, adapted from the portal comic series online. Definitely worth checking out. After a couple years i nervously asked one evening during dinner if i could get this game on steam. The joy and excitement is not something i will forget when i managed to finally own a copy.

Playing it as a kid i obviously had a tough time with some chambers but overall i had a blast. And that was my first playthrough done. Throughout the years i played portal 2 over and over again, each time discovering and appreciating something new. I recently downloaded it again because a friend wanted to play co-op together. I actually hadnt completed co-op before because me and my friends would just give up after a point. This time my other friend had already played through the first stages with someone else. But it was still a blast to complete the rest together. And i guess that could count as a complete playthrough of co-op :D.

After that my love for this game got rekindled but since i completed the singleplayer so many times already i found myself stuck. I wanted something new yet familiar. So i went to modDB to see if there were any interesting Portal mods.

By the way, i havent mentioned Portal at all. Portal honestly hasnt stuck with me the way the second one has. It still definitely has its charm and i also have completed it a few times but it just feels like a mini tech demo cobbled up from half life assets. (And to be fair that actually kind of what it was meant to be, but i didnt grew quite fond of it) Though i have to give credit for the writers because they managed to create an amazing story that was able to be expanded into something much more.

Now back to searching for mods, i found two interesting ones called Portal: Prelude which was about the events right before glados's start-up. And a horror mod called ERROR. Portal: Prelude was pretty challenging but it was a well made mod. ERROR was actuslly suprisingly a pretty decent horror mod. Since the game was ominous already it didnt have to do much to make it even more creepy. After those two experiences i looked for Portal 2 mods. There werent many but i saw Portal Tag and decided to try it. (I had previously watched a playthrough of it, and also Portal Stories: Mel) It was decent but i didnt stick with me.

I searched for more mods but i found no map/story ones that were interesting. There are two mods coming in the near future that im excited about though. So cheers for that. I found a graphic improvement mod and decided to play the campaign with it once more. I gotta say its a pretty successful mod. It improved the lighting quite a bit and made the game look more vibrant especially in the ruined areas. This was the first time i completed the game in one session and it took me roughly 3 hours perhaps. I once again throughly enjoyed every moment and always remembered my past experiences and memories in certain points of the game. This time i appreciated the humor and wit of the dialogue more, getting a bit older helped.

So now that ive given the context to why i appreciate this game and series so much, im going to give a small review.

Graphics: 8/10

Honestly, i think it looks absolutely spectacular for 2011. And im considering this without the graphics mod. It has its own unique style that im just so much accustomed to. I hold most of the source games dear in this regard. Its become kind of nostalgic really.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

Pure and simple. But brilliant
Im going to include portal here as well and review the gameplay as a whole concept. Ive honestly found nothing to be close to how unique and fun placing portals and flinging through the air is. Its such a simple concept but it also has endless potential. The entire game is structured around these holes through time and space and it just works brilliantly. And hats off to the original small team of developers who created this concept with another game, before being hired by valve to make portal. Well done.

Story: 9.5/10

The story is simply amazing. From the plot points to the dialogue to the character relations everything is just spot on perfect. With each playthrough i have appreciated it even more, and as i mentioned above i really, really, really enjoy the dialogue. Brilliant writing- always keeps you entertained. And the ending is also very heartwarming. Not going to mention any more as i want to keep it spoiler free.

Soundtrack: 8/10

Reconstructing Science, all i have to say

In all seriousness though, the soundtrack is honestly spectacular. It always sets the mood correctly and has a great electronic vibe to it. There are also some mini gameplay elements where when you jump or interact with certain things they produce a short gritty electro music loop. Which i absolutely adore.

That pretty much concludes all the main elements i wanted to review. Theres so much left to be said but i dont want to drag this on any longer. So once again i want to express how much i love this game and i definitely reccommend it to anybody who hasnt experienced it before. I hope you enjoy it!

I grew up with the gamecube and wii so i never had the opportunity to play the Halo games. But i still have some kind of weird nostalgia for the series. It might be that a couple years back i actually watched playthroughs of Halo 2, 4 and 5. Im not quite sure why i skipped 1 and 3 but regardless i was still very fond of all of them- especially halo 4. So during quarantine i came across the Halo franchise again, and thought to myself maybe i can play it now. To my luck the master chief collection had been mostly ported over. So i started off with Halo 3 which was amazing. It is probably the penultimate halo experience and the best way to get into the series. I decided to skip the other mainline games since i already knew the story and gameplay at this point (But it should be said that Halo CE and 2 are both amazing games as well with a more nostalgic feeling in them). So i continued first with Halo Reach. It was a really great side story and the ending was pretty tragic (atleast i learned where the objective: survive meme came frome lol). Then i played Halo ODST. Another great side story which felt more melancholic. All the other games were action packed and exciting but this one felt unique for its kind of lonely and moody vibe to it. And finally i waited 2 months or so until Halo 4 came out. I think the biggest 2 problems i have with halo 4 is that the campaign felt very short and the level design was kind of repetitive with little variation between missions. I feel like it got in the way of the story, which was the best part. All the previous games dealed with the military and tactical problems of saving humanity with some character quips here and there. I think this game did a good job on focusing more on a personal story. The theme of saving humanity against a human threat was still present in the form of the Didact which to be honest felt like another cliche villain to me. But as i said the personal relationship between the Chief and Cortana was more interesting for me and the overall message of the game, that soldier's are also human beings and have emotions was also very powerful. Even though i didnt personally play i still want to talk about Halo 5 as well. Halo 5 for me and many other is probably the worst in the series. The gameplay overall is not too different from the other previous games however the edition of more body movements felt weird to me. What shined in Halo 4 absolutely went down the drain in 5. The story felt very dull and i hated how they turned Cortana into a crazy villain type karen. Very disapointed with that. But lets not end this on a low note. Im very satisfied with this series and i hope that everybody else gets a chance to play all the games and go through every moment. I think that it truely is a very unique FPS experience with a lot of history and depth to it. Can't wait for Halo Infinite

Graphics are still look amazing. The atmosphere is incredible. Driving is ok-ish. I really like that the cars have realistic suspension and driving but sometimes it just gets in your way during missions. Motorcycles are absolute ♥♥♥♥. It feels like you're driving on ice. Story is pretty ok but nothing extraordinary. Missions are mostly the same thing. The ending is kind of bland since i thought i was only approaching the last third of the story. However the intro is absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing. It really puts you into the mood to play a dark menacing game. The most annoying part of the game takes place outside the game. It took me hours to setup gta4 to play normally. I had to follow a bunch of guides. Lastly, the shooting mechanics are horrible. For some reason your aiming sometimes gets stuck on a horizontal or vertical line. Its pretty annoying. I asked my friend and he also said that this happens.

Verdict: Despite it's flaws its still a nice game. Buy it on sale and check it out for yourself. Just don't expect a 98/100 rated game.
