Amazing fun - easily worth the price of admission

Shallow trash
could be worth it for some people

- Choices don't matter - Leveling 'options' don't matter
- No economy system
- Classes are a one and done events
- No Curfew outside of 1 or 2 missions
- You'll encounter 3 (Spiders, Poachers, Goblins / w/e they are) types of enemies 90% of the time and there's very little
variation in that
- Catching a Griffon is no different to catching a hamster - monster catching is barebones trash
- Outside of main quests, the world is utterly boring , copy pasted caves everywhere (enter, walk a bit, find chest in middle
of room - nothing else to it)
- You have one choice of personality in dialogue options , Very polite or Polite - goody goody
- You can't be a dark / morally grey wizard
- The £18 DLC is utter trash , it's worth maybe £5 - if it had a good game to exist in.

- It's 1800's Scotland , everyone is English or Ugandan ?
- Unnecessary wokeness

Predatory marketing ...
Very good game other than that , technically speaking there's hundreds of hours of content even if you stay 'free to play' , but to be relevant - take part in community stuff , you'll need DLCs
Lots of game systems are kept behind those paywalls (which I'm not saying is a bad thing, there needs to be a stream of funding to keep a game like this running)

It's essentially a 'pay monthly' game, Think of it like any MMO game, Runescape, World of Warcraft, Black Desert - etcetc
Except rather than a standard Subscription , you pick and choose DLC , and the Battlepass - which to be fair, gives a lot of the good stuff in it's 'free' tiers.

You can play PVP and PVE content to your hearts content without spending a penny

More on the Predatory bit
Battlepass is 1200 silver , you can't buy 1200 silver - you can buy less or more
SO , lets say you get 1500 silver , there is nothing to spend that 300 extra silver on , you will HAVE to buy more silver , to use that silver.

They sell the 'Witch Dungeon key' separate to the Witch Expansion - which is also predatory

It is however, a very well crafted game, with very satisfying combat , beautiful scenery - PVP , PVE, Difficult high tier content ...

Give it a go , expect to spend some money eventually is all I can say

refreshing change from the other - uninspired Battle Royales

I'm a fan of Chinese Manhua - Cultivation Novels etc - which is a plus.
I won 15 out of 16 of my first games
The cosmetic prices - compared to Valorant for example - are extremely fair (but still expensive)
You have opportunities to unlock premium cosmetics for free , which is more than can be said for many other BR games.

It does get slightly more difficult as you get better and play against better players.
I've played with and against 'Chinese players using VPN' and It hasn't been an issue for me, they're usually good teammates compared to people named 'Dan'

Overall I like the game - there are a few things I dislike about it (which I'll explain)


The first thing I did upon loading up was make custom characters , this aspect of the game is great, much better than any other DW title.
You can equip multiple Musou moves from weapons you're character doesn't Hold - for example , have a Katana as a primary weapon but have your Musou attack use a Crossbow.
^ You won't be disappointed if this is important to you (as it is to me)

When I got into battle , my initial thought was that it has the 'feel' of the older games, I prefer the combat in this compared to Warriors Orochi 4 as an example.
Orochi 4 lacks that DW 'feel' , so I was excited when I got into my first battle in DW8E and actually enjoyed myself.

However, I have found it's missing 'Empire' features which Dynasty Warriors 5 empires had - although of course it does have its own unique features as well.

Firstly , you can play as a ruler , serve under one OR be a vagabond - serving under a ruler gives you more to do - as you can go on quests which vary from assassination, raiding, defending - kill wolves etc ...
As a vagabond you can recruit Unemployed officers to grow your force and complete missions - and when you're ready you can 'Raise your banner' and take over the region you're residing in.

Stratagems, these are cards you can equip to give you abilities revolving around 'strategy' , such as setting up an archer ambush , summoning a defence tower, making it rain arrows , magic (thunder strikes , tornado, flooding) etc
If memory serves me correctly , in DW5E you could equip similar cards before a battle to enhance your army - like having Beast masters spawn with your troops, but they weren't abilities you activate yourself.

I've only played on Hard and Chaos - I wouldn't play any lower than this , but the difficulty is acceptable , especially when you compare it to Orochi 4.

Here are some bad points : - really bad points imo...

- Positioning officers in certain regions makes no difference when it comes to defending...
You'll have full access to all of your officers when defending - even if they're on the opposite side of the country.

- When recruiting officers , there's no Image or display to show you who you're recruiting, you have to 'Guess' by the persons name... so Unless you know the name of every character, you're going to struggle.

- In DW5:E , there were events that effected your Kingdom as well as others such as, earthquakes, famine etc ... which you'd then remedy with your decisions , there is none of that from what I've seen...

- Enemy officers will only attack you if you're near them... they'll completely ignore absolutely everything and beeline for you.

- The premade scenarios don't have 'special events' from what I've seen - all the scenarios do are dictate what officers are where and nothing else

I did have a Yellow Turban rebellion pop up in my Kingdom - as I had Zhang Jiao as a 'Prefect' (I gave him land to and a title) , it was the same as a standard defence mission, but it was nice to see that 'rebellion' can happen.
Though this is the only time in a whole playthrough.

It would seem that it's very very rare for anything interesting to happen in your Kingdom when you play as a ruler.

Because of this, there is no Challenge after a brief time playing - you can just sit and accumulate materials and funds , occasionally deal with a neighbour raiding you - and that's it.

When you allocate troops - you will always go for the maximum - there's almost no situation where you won't have enough troops to do so.
This results in battles usually being evenly matched.

I think £14 is a perfect price for the game - it's lacking depth, and it's very easy to 'unlock' everything (weapons and stratagems) , after 1 playthrough you'll have a lot of Bonus points to spend on permanently unlocking items.
This means that you won't even need to upgrade the blacksmith and shops to access those items in future playthroughs - Though you need to 'check' this setting when you start your empire, it also costs some Bonus Points to do so (which you earn through playing)

Some New things
- Sworn Sibling - you can do what the 3 Shu Brothers did and swear an oath to someone , this has very little impact on the game.
However , example : I join Lubu's army as an officer - I interact with him and make him like me , we become sworn siblings - I leave his army ... He now follows me instead.

- Marriage Proposals, someone can profess their love to you - you can say 'yes or no' , this would result in a Child which is randomly generated - It will use one of the parents weapons , and mix it's musou attacks based on both parents , along with its preferred stratagems.
After you complete your empire mode - the child will be editable as a custom character.

if you liked any darksouls game, this is a no brainer

It has a lot of love - some of the most engaging dungeon content in any MMO or Arpg game.
That being said, prepare yourself to spend about 25 hours getting max level (which is where the true game starts)

- The game is almost devoid of any Multiplayer - unless you're playing the highest tiers of Raids
- There's no 'loot' to speak of
- There's censorship
- There are a mindnumbing amount of awful quests you HAVE to complete to progress - unless you want to spend real money to skip a lot of it.

Yeah I said there are some nice quests and dungeons , but it's a bit like having to watch 200 episodes of the worst filler you could imagine - just to get to some plot.

It's just not worth anyone's time

Is this.... addiction?

Seriously though, it's so good.
I use a reshade to add cartoon lines and I think it gives the game extra personality.

I've got Uni assignment hand-ins this week for my Masters...

It has faster gameplay than previous Halo games, there's good weight behind strikes and vehicles
