i havent even finished the game yet, and i still feel like this is a one in a lifetime game.

ups:
- absolutely spectacular game design. wherever you think something interesting is there, there actually is!
- its really fun to fly around in the ship as well as the space suit. also thing just WORK!
- absolutely superb ambience in the home planet. the music fits in really well. especially after i learned that this games entire vibe is meant to feel like backpacking.
- the 'gimimck' of the sun exploding in 22 minutes then restarting is really clever, making it accessible to anyone to just start. however this means that once you learn things you will never unlearn them meaning you can only play this game once.
- the tools are really unique. both the light orb and the radar are super useful and have multiple purposes which is really really resourceful as to not overwhelm the player.
- ship autopilot flings you toward the sun if youre not careful. 10/10 no notes
- the area is spaced out really well, vast enough so you get the idea but not too vast as to bore you.

downs:
- this game is not for everyone. this is a completely self guided journey. there will not be any commander shouting at you, no guns, none of that. only you and the vast space.
- with that in mind, a lot of this game is reading up on the lore around you. i consider this a plus, as there is some awesome environmental storytelling that really tugs at you.
- it is really easy to miss things in really info-dense spaces, so be sure to use the ship log a lot to see what you should check out next. i didnt realize that until halfway through.

i havent finished it yet so i will edit this as i go along.

oh man. where to begin?

this was probably one of the first games that wasn't a hand me down.

I still remember the excitement when I saw the teaser in April 2016. a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sword!!?!?!?!??!!?? and man did respawn deliver. there was no controversy! it was literally all fun and games! from launch, the game was so jam packed, with insanely creative mechanics.

THE MAPS:
The map designers were tasked with something so unique, which I can assure they have never done before. designing 2 different map layouts, overlaid on each other, all while making it feel and play good. You have titans, these huge robots walking, and pilots, the parkour masters. The fact they didn't make either feel out of place needs to be studied.

THE TITANS:
a brand new (but familiar) refresh on the titans from titanfall 1. I think implementing a "hero system" partially by adding it to titans was a bold, but very well thought out choice. It lets you focus on the enemy titans' strong and weak points, whether you're a pilot or a titan. I suggest you watch the devs GDQ on titans. Really good watch.

The GUNS:
not only were they so unique in their own ways, but they each were so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun to use? like the cold war! a charge up burst grenade launcher?? and the devotion! a machine gun with accelerating fire rate! and the smart pistol! oh wait we don't talk about that. but overall, you could easily top frag with literally whatever gun you used. it all depended on your skill.

and the SOUND DESIGN..
oh my god. dont even get me started. the CLANKs, and the BWOOOOOOOOSSSSHes. the ambient noise to the grunts on the floor, or the Titanfall cracks on landing. (obv it can get a bit repetitive but come on) all of it was so carefully crafted, like everything else in the game.

THE ART STYLE:
Of course it can look very slightly dated, but it still holds up. You can tell they were not shooting for ultra realism, they knew what mattered, which was aesthetic. The whole future vibe, which doesn't feel too uncomfortable or unfamiliar, is such an immaculate vibe when you immerse yourself for the first time. like the hexagon display on the R-201, to the cockpit of a titan. you can tell there was some real passion put in to make it all as believable as possible.

It was this very game that started the fire within me to design games. I am now in computational arts because of this game. and I hope to tap into the passion they clearly had in this game!!!

in conclusion: this is a must play, if you own a PC. endless hours of fun. PLAY IT ALREADY!!

For me, Apex legends was a start of a new chapter.

in the time of early 2019, where battle royales were the peak of gaming, Apex managed to breathe a breath of fresh air with a hot new take on the genre. reboot banners, redeploys, shield tiers, etc. the game really put some innovative game mechanics into an already amazing game mode.

for me, the problem was not that. see, i have enjoyed thousands of hours of respawn entertainment's other games. i could tell that they really cared in how things collided with each other. but in apex? it seemed the more time went by, the less respawn really cared about the game-play enjoyment, and instead on how to make as much money as possible.

i don't blame them really, the world is greedy. i get it. but i do see how the acquirement ea made of respawn completely gutted the studio's passion, and instead was brutally turned into a hollow glove, to instead maintain apex for as long as humanly possible. they were once passionate, even until early 2021, but now it is simply limited skin event after more limited skin event with a couple bells and whistles here and there. it became more and more clear to me when more and more of the original team quit and made studios themselves.

all rambling aside, apex was (and still kind of is) awesome. but it's starting to suffer from what rainbow six siege is suffering from: fatigue of the same stuff over and over again.

wow. i initially thought that this was only a neat and innovative mechanic + some cool maps to mess with, but the narration was absolutely beautiful. the way the game really drills in the sense of scale is incredible. i love how the studio made the game's gimmick into an impactful and poetic way to view emotions. the map designs were really fascinating as well. plus the end is probably one of my favourite endings of a single player game of this type. a must play if you're either sick of multiplayers, or brand new to games. very innovative!
