Left for Dead is a fast paced zombie survival game where you and three other survivors must work together to survives the hordes of zombies and try get rescued. Along with fighting off hordes of common zombies there are also special infected that you must fight off that have the ability to incapacitate you unless you’re saved by one of your team mates. The game really focuses on team work since you need your teammates to survive both the special infected and since it takes time to do things like heal yourself or start a generator you’ll need someone watching your back while you perform these actions.
The game does not have much in the way of story, you gather bits and pieces of what happened from character dialog and things in the environment. There are five main campaign levels each with five parts to play along with 2 more DLC campaigns. The final level or finale is where the game really comes to life because you and your team contact a means of rescue and must survive until it arrives. They can become very hectic and require your team to scout around the area and find the best place to hold out fight off the infected.

Besides the campaign there is also a mode called versus where other players play as the special infected and try to stop the players from completing the campaign. It feels very satisfying when you plan out your attack and manage to do massive damage against the players. There is also a survival mode which played out just like the finales except the rescue vehicle never arrives and you try to see how long you can hold out.

Overall the game is a lot of fun and the campaigns have lots of replay value, however it will get tiresome after a while to keep playing the same maps. It is a game that is much more fun to play if you have other players playing with you. It’s a very tight game that has everything that it needs to work, there aren’t any items or characters that feel out of place or not needed, everything serves a purpose in one way or another.

Borderlands is a classic shoot and loot style game. You pick one of four classes and search the planet of Pandora for the legendary vault, which will supposedly bring our heroes wealth, power and fame. You can play it solo or have up to three people join you on your quest. There are many interesting characters in Borderlands and several unique enemies to fight. The environments do feel very similar throughout the game since they are mostly variations of deserts and rocks. You’ll primarily be in large open desert areas, shanty towns, and junk yards. Some of the areas are very large and require a vehicle to explore but the vehicles in the games are so easily destroyed by the enemies and they handle extremely poorly. There are lots of weapons and loot items to discover while playing so you’ll be rewarded for exploring but most of them can be found on top of a house or behind a table. The story in the main game revolves around finding the vault and helping the different people you meet with different tasks like collecting items and fighting different bosses. Most of the bosses drop rare and unique weapons and most side quests reward you with unique weapons as well. The only problem is that the main story can begin to feel dry after a while. The middle of the game revolves around going to a new area and killing a boss and can feel repetitive after a while but the game really comes to life at the end.
Where the game really excels is in the DLCs. The stories in the DLCs are not as serious in the main game and are more funny and lively. They take more risks in them and it really pays off in its uniqueness and helps the game stand out.
Overall Borderlands is a solid game. It is enjoyable to play either alone or with other players. If you plan on getting it I recommend getting it with the DLC since it adds so much more to the base game. It does have its weird gameplay moments and occasional cheap death, but nothing that’s really a deal breaker.

Portal is a puzzle game where you are a test subject and must solve a variety of puzzles using different mechanics. The game is full of mystery, you never know whose watching you solve the puzzles or who is watching you solve them which adds to the uneasy feeling that everything isnt as it seems. Portal also features a variety of challenge maps where they make a small changes to a test you've already completed that adds to the challenge. Portal is a fun puzzle game and isnt too challenging to solve the puzzles but will require a bit of logical thinking but the story is very strong, it's a lot of show dont tell and it works really well. I would highly reccomend.

I'm usually not a fan of real time strategies or management games but there's something about the Tropico series that I find very enjoyable. It’s got a unique feel and concept that I find very enjoyable. The story was very interesting as you watch the cold war unfold from the sidelines and turn Tropico into a powerhouse country to rival the US and the USSR, the characters were funny and enjoyable and the building felt more organic than in most management games. The goals felt like they offered much bigger rewards than just as "something to do".

The main story was a lot of fun but the ending was disappointing. I was hoping it would set one large objective or ask me to do some grand task. Instead it just had me enable a bunch of edicts and build a few expensive items and call it a day. The Modern Times DLC was also disappointing. Instead of researching more advanced versions of buildings you just have to wait till a certain year and then they are given to you. I did however like the random historic events that would happen that would increase the price of beef or decrease the price of gold. It was an interesting additional layer to add to picking what kind of items to export.

Overall Tropico is a very fun game and I had a lot of fun playing it. It's a game that lets you build more of what you want instead of forcing you along a path. It offers multiple solutions to problems and rewards players for building very strong economies and keeping their citizens happy.

Almost 5 years after its release I decided to try the infamous Aliens Colonial Marines. At the time of release it was hailed as one of the worst games ever made. But is it really still the worst game ever?

I am a major fan of the Alien series so being able to use Pulse Rifles and Smartguns was a huge selling point for me and I did appreciate the nodes to the movies at first, but there are so many of them to the point it became too much. Every collectable has a movie quote tied to it, one of the collectables is guns from the movie, and the game doesn't feel like it has confidence in itself so it keeps quoting the movie hoping that it can appeal to the fans.

The combat is fine. Some of the weapons feel like they have no punch, but weapons like the pump shotgun and pulse rifle are fun to use. Honestly I didn't mind fighting hordes of the xenomorphs. They deal feel mindless at times but they were still solid to fight. The part where the game really slows down is when you start fighting other humans. At several points you fight Weyland PMC members and these parts are very annoying. Your character can only take a few hits from them before he goes down and the soldiers are capable of shooting through walls and cover which results in several cheap deaths. At the same time they don't understand how to use cover so they're sometimes too easy to take down like when they take cover behind a window or a pole that’s half their size.

The worst part of the game by far is the NPCs. They feel very static and weak in terms of character. Nobody develops over the course of the game. They are constantly yelling at each other and complaining about how hard everything is. They offer no aid against any of the enemies you fight and when anything emotional happens they express no emotions.

Now while most people talk about the infamous game, not a lot of people played the Stasis Interrupted DLC, which is a real shame because it is honestly stronger than the main game story. The characters show more emotion, the gameplay feels more thought out in the DLC and they aren't constantly trying to recreate scenes from the movie or come up with excuses to revisit movie locations, instead it stands on its own. The NPCs in it aren't as annoying and show more emotion than in the base game.

If you're a major fan of the Alien series you might get some enjoyment out of this game, there were several bugs present in the game but none of them were deal breakers. If you really want a more authentic Alien experience then I highly recommend Alien Isolation. But as for Colonial Marines it's a very OK game, but doesn't really offer anything outside of being an Alien's game.

I have always been a big fan of the Katamari series. It is a very calm and relaxing game with a fantastic soundtrack, fun game play and goofy but loveable characters. I had a ton of fun playing the game. They keyboard controls work fine but in my opinion this is a game that needs to be played with a controller.

My two biggest complaints are that they fixed none of the bugs that were preset in the original game, it feels like they just copied and pasted the PS2 game. My other complaint is the price of the game. $30 bucks is a lot to pay for a 6 hour game, and while it is fun to replay the levels to try and unlock the comets and eternal modes it still feels like too much money for the game. (Especially since the original PS2 version of the game was only $20 when it first came out).

Jazzpunk is a comedy game that spoofs the "James Bond" era of spy movies. You embark of a variety of different "missions" to different exotic locations. It's a game where most of the fun is found exploring the environment the missions are in. The different locations are filled with a variety of side missions and props to interact with and the humor is very slapstick. It's a very fun game but it is also pretty short. It's a game that you can finish in about 2-4 hours including exploring the environments.

Stardew Valley is a farming simulator game where the player takes over running their grandfathers farm. The game is full of characters and different activities to do including farming, fishing, exploring the mines and more. Stardew Valley also features a town full of villagers that the player can form relationships with.
Stardew Valley can seem overwhelming at first with how much there is to do. It’s the kind of game where you’ll have to give yourself projects and then work to complete them. There is also a place called the Community Center where you’ll have to bring certain items to complete bundles in order to unlock more locations to visit. There are also secret locations for the player to discover as well rewarding the player for exploring the world.
Stardew Valley is a very fun and relaxing game. It is very casual and approvable for anyone to play and has lots of different secrets to find. It is a very slow paced game. It takes time for the crops to grow or wait for the days when the shops are open but it is still a lot of fun to play.

Subnautica is a crafting survival game where you are trapped on an ocean planet and must work to survive and try to escape the planet. Unlike most survival crafting Subnautica has a story and there is an actual ending where you leave the planet. The story is very deep and involved and you’ll find different things that add to the environment like audio logs, abandoned structures and more. There are a variety of creatures that you’ll find from cute little fish to massive leviathans that will try to eat you.

Subnautica is a beautiful game and the environment is one of the strongest aspects of the game. It’s beautiful and breathtaking, especially at night with all of the different color things that light up. You are also able to build your own base and different vehicles that will help you survive and reach different biomes.

The game is fun to play but it can be counterintuitive sometimes. There would be parts where I had a hard time finding a specific item or reaching the next environment. I would also run into bugs where a mountain wouldn’t spawn in until I was inside it resulting in me being glitched into a mountain and having to restart the game. However Subnautica was a fun game and I was able to look passed these flaws to keep playing and find out what happens next in the story. I’ve heard many players wish it had a co-op feature but I believe that it works better as a single player game. The feeling of isolation and being the only human on a completely alien planet that couldn’t care less if you were alive or dead really adds to the story and it feels much more like an accomplishment when you overcome obstacles. Subnautica is a game that I would highly reccomend playing, it is one of my favorite games to play and I would recommend going into it blind so you don't spoil any of the story.

Fallout New Vegas is one of the best games in the fallout series. They took many of the mechanics that worked great in Fallout 3 and refined them as well as adding new ones. Some of the best features include being able to add weapon mods to improve your weapons, a faction system where your actions can affect your relationship with the different factions, more in depth crafting allowing players to create many different items that can help them survive and an improved ammo crafting system allowing the player to take ammo they don’t use and craft it into ammo that they can use.

The story is one of New Vegas’s strongest points. Unlick Fallout 3 which had clearly defines “good guys” and “bad guys”, New Vegas has factions that have their pros and cons but none of them are perfect and they force the player to make compromises with how they want to shape New Vegas. After you complete the game you are treated to a slide show that shows the outcome of all the decisions that you’ve made and there are so many things that the player can do to change the future of New Vegas from side missions, to helping out the different companion characters, to the events of certain random encounters.
The DLC are also very strong in the game as well. Dead Money was personally my favorite out of the four because of the dark story and because I fell in love with the location and the heist of the Sierra Madre casino. If you’re going to play the DLC I recommend playing them in the order of their release because they all are parts of one big story that tells how the events of the main game were set in motion.

Along with the DLC packs are the Gun Runners Arsenal which adds a huge variety of weapons to the base game. Some are silly like the Nuke Cola Neon Sign and some like the Bozar kick serious butt.

New Vegas is a fantastic game and one of my all-time favorite games. I cannot recommend this game enough, it’s packed full of so much content and was the first game I bought when I got Steam because of how much I like it.
