Oh this was such a huge step forward from the first one! The puzzles are more puzzling, the maps have incredible sceneries and you can talk philosophy with fellow robots on social media now!! + cats 🐈

There is only one major complaint I can have and that's:

  • The maps are...
    GINOURMOUS!!
Plenty of indicators to find your way in them, so you don't really get lost but it just takes such a long time to get from point A to point B sometimes.
Oh right and there was that 1 star that would've been impossible to find because they hid that 1 item in that 1 tiny corner. How was I supposed to know?!

Besides that, interesting companions & story, lots of existential dread and some very good voice acting. It's a real blast if you like puzzle games.

8.5/10

A solid 4/5

Pros:
  • An amazing inky art style that really captures the dark mood of the game.

  • Everything that happens is narrated wonderfully by your wholesome uncle.

  • A uniquely challenging experience that you will unfortunately come to hate love.

  • Believe it or not, sometimes you WILL get mad lucky and when you do... Ohohohoooo what a thrill!
Cons:
  • Despite everything, your precious heroes will die, over and over. All that time you spent nurturing and raising them will be wasted = bad feelings

  • You will lose your mind over making mistakes. Even when you do everything right, something WILL go wrong and you WILL need to spend time to fix it = bad feelings

  • Heck, the game can even make you lose hope and stop playing. But that really is the point. The fact that being a hero/adventurer, fighting against monsters would actually be a horrendous, scarring experience. And that's exactly how damn stressed you feel when you play this game!! = bad feelings

Pros:

Visually coolio. Lotsa viking lore and smooth/satisfying combat with some interesting puzzles.

Cons!!

Too repetitive. Same enemies with slight differences every now and then is just lazy work. A lot of praise coming for the physiological accurateness of the main character but WHY WOULD IT MATTER IF IT DOES NOT INTEREST THE PLAYER? WHY WOULD I WANT TO WATCH A CHARACTER SMILE AND FROWN THEN SMILE AGAIN FOR A 5 MINUTE CUTSCENE?!? HOW COULD SUCH RICH LORE GET SO BORING SO FAST?!

AND OOOOH DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE BUGS!! YOU CAN GET STUCK LISTENING TO THE FRIKKIN LORE, AND THE SOLUTION? TO RESTART THE GAME. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Strength in numbers man...
Strength in fokkin numbers...

Gameplay:
If you're a fan of crawlin' through dungeons, fighting waves of enemies to reach a boss OR just a random encounter with a side boss, you're in for a treat! You get to climb frikkin mosters man! Then the guitar solo comes and you land 1 hit before it gets up... eh... then there's the whole lantern thing...

Story:

Only gets interesting after they start revealing the truth about the whole concept of an Arisen. Many moments are a bit cheesy... Not much to get invested on.(Except for the DLC. There's a couple stories there BUT AGAIN ONLY AFTER YOU BEAT UH... eye don't wanna reveal it)

Overall:

It's fun, you get to try all sorts of different gameplay styles but do care that every time you level up, your current class will determine how your stats increase. OH and you get a personal companion/beast of burden!(human?) You also get to hire other people's companions where you can make your own perfect party! I personally had a favorite one "TheEternalJew" who kept looting everything, everywhere, every frikkin time.

10/10? :
Nope, but do give it a try if you like 3rd person RPGs
