Truly a rock solid game. Great graphics, interesting story, awesome sound design, good soundtrack, an awesome atmosphere, and the gameplay OH THE GAMEPLAY. SO great, can't recommend enough. Plus it's TEN DOLLARS, seriously a few hours of great retro shooting that soulfully recreates old school build engine, but adds on in small ways that makes the game so fluid and amazing.

If you just pay attention to the gameplay, it's another boring generic over the shoulder shooter. But the story is something you cannot miss.

Here's a short 4 minute review of the game. Not 20 minutes long because I value your time a bit more, I explain what makes this such a poor experience for me and crack a few jokes along the way.

My Unbridled Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iygWtGEQt8&t=270s

I ended up disliking this game for a variety of reasons detailed in the review, it's 5 minutes so no need to worry about 20 minutes of some dude just jerking about for 20 minutes, thanks for your time.

Simply put, I thought it was a delightful experience, with solid gameplay, a fun story, and it even made me laugh out loud here and there. It's greatest faults are the camera is a bit of a ♥♥♥♥♥, and if you're in some small alleyway it is a triple stacked ♥♥♥♥♥ with whipped cream on top. You only really ever need the speed hat, which is a shame because the other hats are cool looking but it falls under the category where you just default to the fastest form of movement. The bosses are also pretty easy and simple to get a hold of. All that being said, it is a very cute game, which looks very nice, and it ended up leaving a good taste in my mouth, and a smile on my face.

(Played through on hard/medium difficulty) Firstly, I do quite recommend this game, it had an Xcom feel and if you're sick of Xcom like I was, then this may be a nice change of pace. The changes we're pretty good, no more 90% chance shot misses, all of the shots are in intervals of 25%. The characters have a bit of character now, so now the main character isn't you in the game, but a pig dude. Finally the setting is pretty nice, I liked how the enviorment looked most of the time, and the combat hasn't changed but if you go about acting like a scavenger the game gets easier, like it should to be. The stealth is pretty interesting, you need to learn some enemies routes to learn when or when not to ambush them.

That's the good, now the bad. The game was glitchy, I could walk through some walls, my guns would sometimes not reload properly, on occasion a button won't work, finally sometimes I just straight up could not click on an enemy. All of that would be GAME BREAKING if not for the auto save feature, which you can load to from any time, or in other words you can save scum the ♥♥♥♥ out of the game. Insert an insteresting segway here to talk about stuff actually in the game. The characters, while interesting become dull kind of quickly, the three characters I stuck with were the fox, the duck, and the pig. Unless the other two characters were given a ton more focus, the voice lines for the set of characters are kind of annoying. You only get three and they tend to say them every so often, so playing the fox and hearing her say "Same my name jizz-wipe, it's Farrow" for the first time is kinda funny, but by number 29-A is starting to get on my nerves and waste my time. Granted both the duck and the pig didn't have long voice lines that long but no character needs voice lines that long. The gun variety was rather depressing as well. You only get a few guns, from my count you can only get 4 silent guns, 2 of which are the same gun, a crossbow. Reloading is kinda a chore, I wish if I just hit the fire key again it would automatically reload but it isn't too bad. Bosses go out in a breeze with the right equipment, I simply stunned them with the pig, blew them the hell up, and if the pig is in trouble sitting out in the middle of the open, I just toss a smoke grenade on him and go back to my duties. There are these huge robots in the game that seem like they would impose a massive threat, until you fight one and it is the easiest enemy in the game. Since they are robots one attatchment on a gun stuns them for a few turns, followed up by realizing you don't even need the attatchment because they either shoot flames, which deals pitiful damage, or have a huge explosion that takes a turn to arm, so you just move out of the way or stun them.

Before you go however, let me say again, while I may have pointed out a lot of flaws in the game, I still did have a good time with it, I spent a decent amount of time in the game (20 hours-ish) and to some Xcom players they may say "Oh that's not enough time to warrant buying it" I would say it is, a game doesn't need to wring 10000000 hours out of you just to be worth buying, it just needs to be good. And that's what Mutant Year Zero is, good.

One of the greatest games I've played, it has a great story along with astounding gameplay. What more could you ask?

Much like Binding of Isaac, this game is hard, much unlike Binding of Isaac however, take all the disgusting blood and monster, and replace it with guns. In very few cases can I say I killed a giant living bullet king, sitting on a throne of guns that they themselves shoot bullets, with my gun shaped like a bullet that fires pistols that they themselves fire bullets.

I don't like visual novels, let me start off by saying that, and allow me to finish by saying this game is possibly one of the greatest things I've played, the story leaving me changed emotionally. You will be intrigued by every character, and the others you will love with every fiber of your being. My issue, as previously stated, with visual novels is the lack of game play, as you need to have some to be a game. However, the amount of gameplay is JUST enough to keep me intrigued. I found myself going:
"Oh, so it's mostly listening to people talk, whatever."
"Well I need to see what they want, let me just slowly scroll through it."
Finally ending up with:
"Oh my god no way. Why did that happen, man I hope you come back, please come again!"

It's something to add to the small pile of videogames can be art. So get it, it's cheap, it will leave you changed, and finally. Welcome to Valhalla!

Essentially a fast paced shooter hidden in the clutches of a cover-based one. If you want to 100% you won't have much fun. But if you enjoy simple but nice looking sprites, beating up thugs in the name of making the future better (For the most part), and a game that doesn't take itself seriously. I highly recommend it.
