EAC and unstable performance even on high end hardware,
Will update review if they patch these problems.

90% of my playtime was spent getting to where I wanted to go, and I didn't enjoy it one bit.
Fighting with the controls, time limits, oxygen limits and fuel limits just to get somewhere and get a tiny piece of information, which isn't even useful for me. After a little more than 10 ingame lives lived, I just don't want to do it anymore.

I bet it would be worth it if I persevered, but the game didn't get me to care.

I just cannot recommend Hitman 3

While it is the best version to play any of the modern Hitman Levels, it is also a technical and moral disaster.

The pricing is audacious, and the confusing bundles show that IO has not learned from the mistakes of the past two entries in this franchise.

This resistance to learn from their mistakes weaves through everything and culminates in a game with amazing content and gameplay, which is also immensely anti-player.

The way exclusive targets are handled is still punishing for those that cannot schedule their time around this game.

General challenges count towards "destination" completion percentage... why?? They are not tied to the destinations, but make it harder to know which destinations have things left to do.

It has been critized since the first one, and it is still a problem, that the game requires a constant online connection. When your internet connection is somewhat unstable, you will have regular disconnects that negatively impact gameplay of a singleplayer game. And even with a good internet connection you will have regular disconnects. I haven't been able to complete any mission without a least 1 disconnect.

This will have a big impact on the longevity of the series. At some point in the future the servers will go down and then IO has 2 options:

1) Do nothing and Hitman 3 will become unplayable.
2) Make Hitman 3 playable offline

So, why don't they just make it offline playable now? Most people have no interest in leaderboards or any other online components. IO's move to force the game to be always-online is completely anti-consumer and it actively harms the game.

Things I dislike, which are a matter of taste:
The generic bombast soundtrack lacks the charm that Jesper Kyd brought to the older games.
The menues are overloaded and not nice to navigate.

Things I like:
It looks better, performs better and is also much smaller in file size. (compared to the previous two games)

---

The game could redeem itself. None of the points I critize are written in stone.
But I have no hope of the devs ever fixing any of that.

It is a short and chill experience. I enjoyed it fully.

EDIT: Since the last content update it is even better.

When the game released into beta the devs promised DX12/Vulkan in the next 3 months. It has been 4 years. It's not like the devs don't do anything. But let me put it like this. This game doesn't run half as well as the Crysis 1 Remaster, while having less graphical features.

The devs can upgrade the engine and they could implement better AA or any other new tech.

Though what this game gets on the regular is paid cosmetics. The cosmetics are high quality, but what the game doesn't need, is 20 more skins.

Update 1 - 2022: Still garbage.
250$ "worth" of DLC, but still running on DX11, even though they promised DX12 AND Vulkan at most 3 months after release. Game performance is sad and modern features (DLSS, FSR, proper AA) are immensely needed.

---

Update 2 - 04/2024: Still a money grab with 450$ "worth" of DLC now.

In march of 2023 the devs promised, again, that DX12/Vulkan would come in the next 12 months. It is now the end of april 2024 and it still hasn't happened. 6 years after it was initially promised.

But what has released since then -> 52 pieces of DLC totalling 451.48$
Not to forget that this game costs 40$ and also has an premium currency (which can be earned ingame, or bought with real money)

And since they just keep adding more guns, gadgets, ammo, traits and other stuff, it really changed the whole game. On release this game was an atmospheric horror-shooter with a slow pace and high stakes where each shot mattered. Now it is a fast paced action shooter where the better equipped player wins 90% of the time. The game has lost all sense of balance and dying feels random and frustrating. Sure more content is cool, but what use is more content, if the devs cannot balance it? Or if they add content that doesn't harmonize with the gameplay design?

And you have to put up with EAC, but will die to hackers reguarly. Love to see companies hurting the honest player, but still not be able to prevent the hacking.

Update 3 - 08/2024

They upgraded the engine (finally) and have added upscaling and more granular graphics setting, making this game playable for more people.

There is a new roaming boss (which makes theoretically 2 now) which adds depth and variation to maps.

But it seems that this game obeys the law of equivalent exchange.

The menus are now in full "give us all your money" mobile game mode. It is impressive how a PC-First game can decrease the mouse+keyboard navigation with every redesign. Everything has gotting worse.
- Closing the map with ESC? That closes the map... and opens the options.
- You have 20+ characters and we present it as a line showing only 3-4 hunters at a time? You cannot scroll through the list. Scrolling brings you to a screen that has 2 buttons for buying new hunters. Which can be done in the previous screen through a button... no scrolling needed.
- When the game first launched you could drag and drop equipment to inventory slots. Then they removed that, but if you wanted to switch equipment, you could still re-equip items to a slot that you wanted them. Now you have to open a new menu just to unequip an item and then equip another item. They added another 3 steps to a process that at one point was a single drag&drop action.
- The main menu offers multiple options of playing but explains none to the player.
- The game doesn't reset your viewing position when filtering things. So if you scroll down a lot and then activate a filter, then you will have to scroll back up, otherwise you will now stare at a blank screen.
- There is no filter for items you have. You can filter for types of items, but are never able to just show the equipment that is in your inventory and can be used for free.

The new event is, just like all previous events, just a collect-thing-in-normal-mission.

The rubberbanding in my movement has gotten really bad. Even though the game reports a ping of 20ms I sometimes moved around as if it were a skit about the gamers with 300ms ping.

Crytek added a season pass. For a paid game. With $470+ DLC. And purchasable premium currency.

Fazit:
The game was great at launch but steady overloading with content and enshittifaction of the UI make this game a sad version, not only of what it could have been, but of what it already was.

The game suffers from bad UI, mediocre netcode and the unlimited greed of Crytek.

It once was a shooter where a small selection of guns allowed for careful balancing of the experience. Now it is a shooter where instead of balancing a few things, they just fill every niche with new stuff and nothing is balanced.
