This is just really a fan made update to Half Life 2, the improved graphics you arn't going to notice unless you do a side by side comparison. You are going to play this mod for fixing bugs, and improved performance. If you want to play a mod that updates graphics dramatically, look at Fakefactory's (controversial) Cinematic Mod. Otherwise for what HL2 Update does, it does well, plus it'll give you a reason to play HL2 again.

If you have two working hands, eyes, and ears, then you have no reason not to play this MASTAPEECE.

At most there is 20 to 30 players spread across different servers, usually consisting of people so cracked out on the game that you'll get bodied.

This game is inferior to TF2, and it costs money to play. That's a hard sell.

The dubstep trailer was good, the uninstal feature works like a miracle. And now that this game is dead, I wish I could go back to enjoy it's novelty, because even though this game is trashy and has pay to win mechanics, it's also pretty funny.

TF2 is fixed. Now it needs to be kept that way.

Pros :

It's a "Free to Play" game, not a "Pay to Win" game. The micro-transactions are primarily used to obtain cosmetic items, weapon re-skins, obtain the right to do contracts, participate in official co-op servers for rewards, etc.

The balancing in the game is very good, having classes with pros/cons, great starter weapons, and newer weapons (one will find as random drops by playing) almost always being side-grades, rather than direct upgrades from the starter weapons. A fair chunk of the starter weapons are arguably still the best weapons.

The game has a very unique line of entertaining characters that are as varied in their design as they are in their play styles. You'll find very few multiplayer games with even half the personality of Team Fortress 2.

The core movement mechanics and depth to mastering them is superb.

There's many amazing mods and custom maps made by the community. From Deathrun, Saxton Hale, Prophunt, Slender Fortress, etc. there is bound to be a custom gamemode that will entertain just as much as the base game. And like the main game, playing on those community servers is free. Some community made content (maps, cosmetics, etc.) even gets officially added into the main game.

Cons :

For the game's generally good balancing, there's also some awful nerfs to previously good weapons, (such as the Ambassador and Sandman). Additionally there's weapons that are always bad and haven't been changed for years (such as the promotional weapons for Rift),

People still vote to play maps that aren't well designed, and are very choke-point oriented (like Dustbowl). There's very few official capture the flag maps that're good.

Like most Valve games, this should be a game in every Steam account. This game's golden age has been over for years, but it's still a unique game that stands above it's contemporaries and the games it inspired.
