A Machine For Pigs isn't a game about solving puzzles or running/hiding from enemies. Walking simulators are a guided form of player agency, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as the lack of agency serves this kind of experience. Games in general have to be a lot of things they aren't to define what they are. The game is best during the story focused parts, and stumbles greatly when it badly copies The Dark Descent.

This is what happens when the worst aspects of tightly guided linear shooters gets combined with Red Dawn. The game uses imagery of American civilians being murdered to bring out a very superficial reaction out of the player. The story doesn't give critical examination of the enemies or the allies. It's just the plot of Red Dawn with the whole Red Scare, only it's North Koreans instead of Russians.

The core gameplay is incredibly linear. It takes the wrong lessons from games like CoD while discarding the elements that gave that game series it's sense of flow in levels. The players has to do everything exactly as they're told to, otherwise the mission fails. The enemy AI is braindead. Invisible walls everywhere. Movement feels janky: the player character runs slower than a sloth and jump like they're on the moon. The context of each level is so poorly framed that there is no sense of a story goal that's being moved towards.

It's another unremarkable entry in a long line of bad CoD copycats from the 2010's. The multiplayer is dead and the singleplayer is bad. Don't bother.

There is few games that are achievements on the level of Disco Elysium. CRPG x visual novel + superb writing = a must play.

The PC Community got Squenix'd again.

Performance is alright, I didn't see many dips between 60 - 55 fps. Even after patches that fixed some of the more pronounced issues, super basic/unacceptable problems that should've been fixed are still here. The mouse cursor can't be removed without mods (only moved into a corner).

This isn't anywhere near (get it?) as bad NieR Automata's port, but it's still less than optimal, it doesn't feel like a finished port. Editing this review in 2022, apparently Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is a horrific port job on launch. Why does Square Enix keep getting away with letting down the PC community with these subpar ports? This is a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY that makes millions each year.

Persona 5 Strikers a good mix between the depth of Persona 5's turn based mechanics, and horde based action.

For PC only players, this is not a good place to get into Megami Tensei and Persona. There are a few (indirect) spoilers for it's prequel. Additionally, the gameplay (while good) doesn't give you a good idea for how a regular Megami Tensei game plays.

If you're new to the series, I'd recommend you play Persona 4 Golden or Shin Megami Tensei: III Nocturne HD Remaster on Steam. You can also wait for the (very likely) announcement of a Persona 5 Royal port.

The port isn't terrible, but it's not good either: Performance is good. Settings are barebones. The anti aliasing setting is bad. It's a basic on or off switch, and it looks very jaggy. Be sure to mod in something that smooths out the game. Resolution scaling doesn't change until you alt + tab in and out of the game. The game runs really good and without frame drops (that I could notice anyway, and I'm using a GPU that was considered mid range 5 years ago).

I will update with an in depth review after I've finished the game.

TLDR: Just play TF2Ware instead.

Cosmetic unlocks are too grindy: Crown items are too expensive and crowns are difficult to obtain. The seasonal pass progresses too slowly, demanding too much of your time. I also dislike battle pass mechanics in general. Timed exclusive skins is a real downgrade from the glory days of just unlocking stuff in multiplayer games at a relaxed pace with no deadlines. Whatever happened to multiplayer games being fun for the sake of it? Making multiplayer games into a second job by design is one of the worst ways videogames have changed.

Randomness in team compositions as well as where you're placed in a stage (like at the back of the row in Fall Mountain) can set you at an unfair disadvantage.

There isn't much point to playing with friends. Friends are left with nothing to do once they're eliminated. The game could really benefit from a proper duos, trios, or squad mode.

Mediatonic is slow to release new content. Those first few hours are decent, but the game gets repetitive really fast. If you're just dropping in, you'll see most of what the game has to offer in a couple of hours.
