It's definitely a game that requires a certain kind of mindset to enjoy. The visual style is very hostile, the user interface rejects design conventions, and dying in the game will be something that happens a lot.

At the same time, the core gameplay mechanics are solid, there's a lot of tools to play with, and levels are open ended enough to be replayable.

The same can be said for the story, which follows a kind of narrative progression that isn't character driven, nor particularly world driven either, yet you can feel what the game is getting at. As a game with sardonic dialogue/concepts, it's a well constructed black satire of capitalism and grind culture, while never sermonizing.

It's a game that's this weird mishmash of Quake, Deus Ex, Tactical Shooters (like Rainbow Six), and LSD Dream Emulator, that forms itself back into something unique and coherent. It's a special, one of a kind game.

This is a worthy spiritual successor to (the very underrated) Digital Devil Saga.

The best 2 + 1/2 hours you will experience with the medium of video games this year. Stop looking at reviews, don't find spoilers. Just play it now.

If you want to play a platformer that makes full use of a protagonist's move list to present compelling challenges, then this will be a game for you.

This is the most uninspired a 3D Sonic game has ever been. It encapsulates what happens when a franchise takes it's existing formula as the status quo, while refusing to innovate. It's all the bad parts of boost formula Sonic games, with none of the good parts.

Sonic 06 is at least an interesting bad game that tried and failed. This is just a boring bad game that doesn't try to be anything.
