Much better than I expected. Every DA game has been wildly different in some way. This one reminds me more of DA2 (which kind my lowkey fav), single character action focus, but better with the action. I do NOT miss the endless scavenger hunts from inquisition, even if the constellation making was kind of fun.

Feels a little lighter on choice than I'd like, which is the weakest aspect. It seems like they ruthlessly optimized the experience. Some quest areas are shorter than they could be. Your team always "approves of that" which feels like a relic from a system where disapproving was an option.

That cutting doesn't apply to novel boss encounters, or exploration. On balance it's pretty good.

While I've only played it a short period of time, I've greatly enjoyed that time. I have fond memories of the early Ultima games from childhood, and U7 is probably my favorite game of all time, but the games before 6 can be difficult to revisit. Moonring does an excellent job bringing just enough modern convenience to soften the roughest elements, while still evoking the feeling of grandeur and possibilities.

Early Access Review
It's fun and addicting to assemble maps for games you'll probably never play!

One of my favorite takes on the "shock" style, and one that is most faithful to ethos of an open ended play style and interactive world. Compared to the Bioshock games, the inclusion of characters, many I found compelling, who aren't just dead voices adds a lot to the experience.

While the game received fair criticism for some sameness in the alien designs, Prey breaks broke me out of the "one approach to combat" rut I often fall into with immersive sims. I used all the weapons equally, and never felt like I was weakening myself to try different tools.

I really just like roaming the island chains with Edér, petting dogs.

Deadfire is a solid progression from PoE 1. I like the changes they've made to spells, letting them reset per encounter. I also find the "lore based" approach to enchanting the weapons to be a fun improvement.

More recently I finally got around to Kingmaker, and Divinity OS2, and they're both great at what they do, but Deadfire has a bit more weight and heart in the writing, and especially compared to Kingmaker, I appreciate the ability to solve a problem more than one way.

A rough game for the person who wants to play everyone's friend, but get into the RP!

Sprawling and wonderful if you're the type to turn over every stone. Hundreds of minor charcters (and items) with fragments of narratives convey the feeling of a shattered world slipping between science fiction and fantasy. I love the world, the ability to solve problems through combat or narrative, and the way they realized the tragic nature of a world with infinite possibilities. I hope they bring Rhin back for another game.

Captures the feel of classic PC Black Isle RPGs, but updates the clunkier elements.
