There are bots in all the casual game modes, If you want to vs real players you'll be forced into ranked matchmaking.

After completing the game I can now share my thoughts on the overall product.
I give it a 4/10 If you love the dragon age series and must play this game there will be some things you will enjoy, If however you're new to the series and this is your first dragon age game maybe you will enjoy it.

As a long term dragon age fan my pros include:
Some memorable locations.
A couple of the companions personal stories were engaging and well done.
The way the lighthouse changes over time was a nice touch.

Cons:
Overall the writing is very mid both for the companions and the story.
Companions story arcs felt rushed.
Side quests for me were very boring and after doing 10+ of them i stopped seeking them out entirely as they all were very generic and unappealing.
The rpg mechanics were passable but in comparison to the older dragon age titles they were a let down.
The ability to have any conflict,confrontation or disagreement with companions is non-existent in this game, This is what disappointed me the most about the veilgaurd is the lack of opposition not only by rook (the player made character) but all the companions and other characters.You are forced to agree with all the "good guys" about everything and it's all a happy go lucky adventure with friends.

Overall I rate it a 4/10 buy it on a deep sale if you love the dragon age franchise or if this will be your first experience with the series.
