I have the regret of not reviewing this game sooner, so more people might take a look at it. Having intentions to play a game doesn't mean you are necessarily able to until things line up in your life, and I have to say this is one of the most engrossing 'hard choice' games I've played, while also relaxing every part of my mind.

I'm not entirely sure how much of the rich text there is before it repeats, but the challenge of not running out of Food and Fuel while hunting for a new planetary home for the very last interstellar ship out of several dozen (so your design is technically the best design) to depart dying Earth, while being the character of the nominally benevolent yet absolutely pragmatic AI that is trying to keep your crew alive while knowing how dangerous space exploration is, and that there are moral choices to make to keep a mission going, make it a difficult game to put down, like a good book. Yes, that was a run on sentence. Sorry about that.

The science fiction is strong, it's definitely some of the best writing I've read in the category and that you're making the choices as things go along.

It's as brutal as FTL while not trying to be FTL in the slightest. The writers are a source of envy on my part, if I could write as well as them, I would not stop. To me they're as good as the writers of Fallen London/Sunless Sea/Sunless Skies.

I think this is a thank you to the developer as much as it is a positive review.

Driving joy. Hitting something that causes a slowdown is punishment, cars and tuning are rewards. Turning a bad car into a supercar is a hoot. The car variety is extraordinary, the fun is off the scale, as long as you can live/like Forza physics.

The wheelspins are constantly disappointing, that's the way it goes though. Hope for a dream car.

The 750+ car interiors are all detailed and handcrafted-level. Honestly impressed with the entire package.

I cannot begin to describe how awestruck I was. Again. After the first three games I played that were made by Frictional, (the puzzle one being my favorite until this), I thought they could not strike gold again.

I linked the Wuss Mode mod above because APPARENTLY Frictional went back to their game and MADE an OFFICIAL option. Removing the punishment for exploring, and loitering, without checking your back every other second, allows the atmosphere in this game truly come alive, whereas random monsters keep you on edge constantly so different parts of your brain are active.

The atmosphere is tense even without the random monster elements that also define most Frictional games. The fact that they retroactively tweaked a 'major' gameplay element shows that they are flexible about their own designs. That's good artistry, and good engineering.

This game, simply, is very good. Ocean is as dangerous as space. Adding anything more, makes the stakes more interesting.

The ending is phenomenal.

Earlier this year, certain game involving planets and space was released. That game's release had the potential to obscure Rodina from view entirely. Customizable ship, interplanetary travel, discovery. A communicative game developer with vision making the game. They share many traits. Infamy is not one of them.

I can say with certainty, this game is good. No other developer's depiction of another world's atmosphere, literally or metaphorically, ever had the potential to rival Rodina.

Be careful with this one. There's a free demo available here on the Steam store, a click away. Check it out. Turning off Camera Shake in the options helps a lot if you get motion sick. There's an explanation next to most every Option via a Question Mark so you can tailor the game to your liking. Thanks to the developer for caring about the players.

Oh, and the modding gets very interesting.

So much like Lemmings that it is uncanny. Except you are the one placing the dastardly traps. And if they survive your traps, you place more traps. And if they survive that you use an Instant trap to nuke the runners.

Bloodier than Doom, as much fun as Defense Grid, and replay value in the form of giving your Lemmings superpowers or giving them an advantage to increase your score. As hard as Kingdom Rush when you do that.

Not sure why I'm calling them lemmings. Oh, there's a mode that sets Infinite Spawn mode. Yeah.

5/5
