This isn't just Doom and Doom II, it's effectively an entire port of the full catalog of the first two games to the KEX Engine, making this pretty much your one stop shop for any and all early Doom content, except enhanced in every way possible. Nightdive Studios and id Software partnered up and did the exact same thing with Quake and Quake II previously, and I love those ports just as much.

In addition to your favorite Doom content on a better engine, you also get some beneficial accessibility features and a new more engaging soundtrack that make the experience feel more modern. If you prefer the retro interface and menus or the classic Doom music, you can turn them off and get the old feel back. Otherwise, the new soundtrack is a great complement to these games and make them truly feel remastered. You also get a really awesome multiplayer, allowing you to play cooperatively with 16 player lobbies. Get this, the multiplayer is cross-play, meaning I can enjoy cooperative Doom games with friends on Xbox or PlayStation. Can't wait to check that out.

Nightdive Studios have done a real service to Doom and Doom II with this remaster / port, just like they did with Quake and Quake II. If you don't already own these games, do yourself a favor and play the definitive versions of Doom

I bought this game on Steam to play it on Steam. I have not owned a PlayStation since the PS2 and do not have a PSN account, nor have an internet in registering one. I’ll be requesting a refund as these changing requirements do not meet my expectations for the game.

Every single Halo game worth playing wrapped up into a single package? That's a win right there.

If you're looking for a free sci-fi military multiplayer game, look no further. You're getting classic Halo multiplayer modes like Oddball and Slayer, but with features that make the game feel more modern like sprinting and crossplay with all your friends on Xbox. I'll say it, it's really worth it if you have friends that don't do PC games but still want to party up on Halo with you.

Other than Halo on Xbox, this was my first introduction to first person shooters, and boy did I enjoy the hell out of this game.

It was a late introduction in 2003 or 2004 for me, but after borrowing my friend's disc, Quake III Arena's awesome mix of violent gameplay, Gothic architecture, and cyberpunk aesthetics quickly made FPS my favorite game genre.

If you're feeling nostalgic, just go ahead and get it and get your nostalgia fix in for the day. If you haven't ever played Q3, maybe you won't understand what makes the game so great, but it's a quintessential shooter to play if you want to understand the roots of the FPS genre.

It's a really awesome turn based space exploration game. I still have this on disc, but decided to buy it on Steam so it would always be part of my collection.

Intro: Star Wars Republic Commando is a squad-based shooter that was well ahead of its time. You command Delta Squad, some of the most deadly clone troopers in the whole galaxy. I'll keep this short, but Republic Commando was one of the games from the "golden age" of shooters in my childhood.

Pros: The missions are great, the squad mates are memorable, and the weapons are fun. Republic Commando checks all the necessary boxes for this to be one of the best Star Wars shooters ever. Even for being so old, the squad AI and system still holds up today against other tactical shooters.

Cons: Because this game is from 2005, there is a lack of widescreen support. I just make sure to run it pillar boxed (black bars on the sides) so it doesn’t look stretched on my 1080p monitor.

Conclusion: Even if you owned this game before it was on Steam (like me), it’s absolutely worth it to pick up next time it’s on sale for Star Wars day. You won’t regret it.

Company of Heroes 1 was one of the best, if not the best WW2 strategy game of all time. Company of Hereos 2 continues in its predecessors footsteps while some how being worse in every single way.

Why you might ask? It's pay to win. With your default commanders and units, you don't stand a chance against somebody who has invested a solid $50 into having amazing commanders and units. It's scummy and pathetic. Company of Hereos 1 had expansion packs, but Company of Heroes 2 had day 1 DLC. It was a slap in my face that basically said: "Hey thanks for buying the game, if you want to enjoy the game you'll have to invest an extra $50 into day 1 DLC". Simply put, day 1 DLC that impacts the game so much should never exist.

Lastly, the graphics are nearly the same, except everything looks worse. Buildings look cheap and poorly done where as in the first game you could see very much detail.

From a game play perspective, nothing has changed either. If anything, they found a way to rip off gamers every step of the way in this one.

Did you like Diablo II for being gory and dungenous? Did you dislike Diablo III for being too cartoony? Well I have good news for you, Path of Exile is basically Diablo 2.5 and it's free.

Path of Exile is a self-admitted Diablo clone, and it's not afraid to deny that fact. However to separate itself from Diablo II, Path of Exile has changed enough when it comes to loot, items and the way skills work, so that the game feels fresh enough. It also has pretty sweet graphics, since Diablo II's graphics were really starting to show a lot of age. And well, let's be honest, Diablo III looked way too much like World of Warcraft so that it seemed to loose it's dark soul. The graphics also stay true to Diablo II's darker, grungy themes. Expect gore and venemous enemies that don't feel goofy and stupid.

TDLR: Highly recommended if you're a Diablo fan.

The Quake series is classic. It's probably the most influential shooter when it comes to online arena/deathmatch gameplay. If you haven't spent time playing it yet, you've missed out, and now is your chance to make up for that by testing out the waters with Quake Live.

So what exactly is Quake Live? Quake Live is basically a free game of the year edition remake for Quake III Arena. Same graphics engine, very similar gameplay, except it has significant patches to the netcode and functionality. But best of all, it's on now on Steam. Unlike modern shooters, Quake won't reward you for getting kills with airstrikes and UAVs or ammo drops. The only thing rewarding in Quake is your skill.

Quake III Arena in particular had a lot of gothic art and influence, which hasn't been dropped out of Quake Live, although it seems a bit minimalized. Quake is probably the reason I turned out emo/goth/scene/indie. When I was a kid it exposed me to blood, gore, and gothic art. It's weird to say but Quake was my first FPS ever, and actually had a profound influence on how I turned out.

If you loved Quake or even if you still haven't played it, download Quake Live now and start fragging away.
