A wonderful jaunt through a pretty, concise, nostalgic game.

By far the most enticing part of TASOMACHI is the elegant storybook visuals. Although I never used the photo mode, the game is picturesque in nearly every moment that is played. While beautiful to look at in still, some of the animations of our main character are clunky, particularly when jumping.

Speaking of jumping, TASOMACHI has a surprisingly robust movement system - intended or not. After obtaining all upgrades, the player can simulate bunny-hopping by chaining jumps. Especially when going back through collected everything after beating the main story, the tools given to the player allows for gross exploitation beyond the expected paths of many objectives.

The gameplay is good, but often confusing. Without knowing what collectibles are left, (description is only populated after collection,) using one of the steam guides is recommended for a 100% playthrough. Particularly with some of the trials (of which there are 24), the "challenge" isn't testing the skill of the player, but sometimes patience. It is almost impossible to "fail" a maze unless you eventually give up.

Story is almost non-existent, but for a short, sweet game like this, I don't mind the story. Some of the in-game found dialogue regarding the main girl is interesting to think about, and adds an air of child-like wonder that I also loved in the Ori games.

Overall I would say that most of the game is a 9/10 in enjoyment with a few low points that bring the final rating to an 8/10. If you don't care about visuals I think your enjoyment will be less than that.

It's RNG, but it isn't impossible.

Some runs you will roll bad, and occasionally you might find yourself in an unwinnable run.
But, if you're just playing the normal modes, and ignoring the hard modes, you won't have trouble winning if you're truly thinking about the best moves to make.

Fun, if you like dice and rogue-likes, pick this one up.

I can't find any way to describe this game that I think would give it justice.

If you think it looks and sounds beautiful from what you've seen of it so far, buy it, because it is beautiful.

Here's a quick FAQ I've decided to write up for my review, discussing both positive and negative aspects of Rocksmith.

Is Rocksmith good?

Yes, Rocksmith is good, probably the closest you'll get to lessons without having to talk to someone.

Does Rocksmith make you a better player?

Yeah, unless you're already great at guitar, it will make you better.

What can you DO in rocksmith?

Currently, you can play dozens of free songs, watch free lessons, enter a jam session with an AI band, create your own tones, and play around a dozen arcade games focused on different playing techniques.

How good are the songs?

From what I can tell, the parts are overall well written, and the song selection is pretty good, with around 50% of the songs being hits that I believe anyone would love to learn to play.

How good is the sound registration?

My biggest problem with this game is that a few chords will almost never want to register, while some riffs are way too generous with their notes. What I mean to say is; if I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up a solo so bad that I'm laughing to myself at the abysmal performance, I shouldn't come out of it with a 90% accuracy rating. Same thing in reverse, there's no way I missed that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Cm chord you ♥♥♥♥ game.

Does the software work properly?

Initially, my guitar couldn't get loud enough to pass the first calibration, but selecting disconnected as my audio and then setting it up later worked fine. Annoying, but an easy enough workaround.

What about the DLC?

I bought around 10 songs for 24 bucks, and can say that the DLC songs are probably roughly equivalent in quality to the base game songs. They're expensive though, so remember to buy DLC on sale and in bundles for the most bang for your buck.

Anything else, Loser?

I don't wanna have to retune my entire guitar when all I'm doing is going from E to drop D. Also one time the game gave me a riff repeater that was just 20 measures of rest, so that was pretty cool.

Can I get a TL:DR?

Game's pretty good. If you wanna learn guitar, pick it up. Fun, a few bugs, otherwise fine.

8.3/10

EDIT: something I forgot to mention, if you already know a bit of guitar, don't pick this noobie option like me, it just makes the first few hours really really boring.

Although I don't think any future experiences I will have with this game will ever live up to how I felt about it nearly a decade ago on the Playstation 2, I still believe that these games are great for the younger generation of people who want to play games that involve easy combat, puzzle solving, and adventure elements.

While still faithful to the original trilogy, This re-imagining of the classic games has made a few changes that I think are noteworthy enough to list below

First of all, the inclusion of hints within the loading screen is for sure a convenience when playing, and a nice reminder for the different secrets for players like me who grew up on the main trilogy

Secondly, The game has had slight modifications to it; adding time trials for instance, or making it easier to collect MOST gems as there isn't a 'Do it all in one life' requirement (most of the time).

Lastly, and the thing that bothers me the most, is the physics is somehow entirely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up in this remaster. Making jumps in this game that were already hard in the original trilogy seem damn near impossible at some points. The game constantly forces you to readjust yourself mid jump-sequence just to proceed forward, a good note of this is on the notoriously difficult sky bridge level, there seems to be no way to do sequences of jumps in one go, and bouncing on turtles is the most frustrating it's ever been. This kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hitboxing is most noticable when you're jumping on boxes, or making a jump to the edge of a cliff, and just slide off like Crash has some sort of death fetish.

Overall still a good game, but if you want to relive your youth just download an emulator lol

I beat this game in about an hour and half, and fiddled with the time trials for a couple minutes.

The gameplay is satisfying, with only 2 somewhat annoying parts.

It's fairly linear gameplay, and not super challenging.

The graphics look nice, especially the intro scene looks great, and the environments look beautiful.

the story however, is not good. It tries to make you connect to characters that you have known for all of 3 minutes, and uses cheap, cliche story telling techniques, although this does fit the theme of it supposedly just being a bedtime story.

It's fun, but for $12? I feel like it's a good purchase for $6, and if you're really frugal you can just beat this game and then refund it as it's shorter than 2 hours long.
