Scummy always-online (or you can't save progression) and hit or miss DLC.

And yet I'm giving it a thumbs up, this game is a masterpiece. The campaigns alone are worth the price, and when you get into the insane amount of replayability every single map has through contracts, challenges, or escalations, you can easily put hundreds of hours in. I should know because I dropped like 200+ hours on gamepass before buying it on steam.

It goes on sale pretty regularly so definitely pick it up then!

Valve took all the custom server communities out back and gave them the ol' yeller treatment; you can no longer directly access csgo servers even within the "beta" that is the final csgo build. With the new game engine, physics specific gamemodes like surf (I may be biased here) are unplayable in CS2 and even if they are playable communities are struggling to get maps and servers ported over to the new game. In order to play csgo servers now, even within csgo, you have to either console connect or use the steam client server browser (and only after launching the game otherwise it tries to launch CS2 instead). There's also a wall of what are basically pop-up ads that you have to close because valve is very upset that you aren't playing on CS2

The move to CS2 was shamelessly an attempt to force all their active comp players onto the new game while also keeping 10+ years of positive reviews on steam.

Game bricked a save file at 80+ hours played, sl 200+ preparing to go into ng+ to finish out achievements. It is plagued by performance issues and crashes, in my almost 100 hours of playtime I've crashed almost two dozen times, but this last one has killed my entire save. I have no backup for it, so I'm back to square one unless they somehow fix the corrupted file. Trying to reinstall the game and see if it works then, but from what I see of others having the issue I'm just SOL.

The game itself is honestly probably the best souls game ever. The bosses and world are incredible and the combat is so good. I genuinely wish this game had been released 3 months later, with a few more bugfixes.

EDIT: Save was fixed by verifying local files, but I am leaving this review at negative until the fix performance and crashing issues. Releasing unfinished buggy games is just the norm now and shouldn't be supported.

Thought I'd at least get all the achievements (it's all stuff you buy with points so just play and you'll unlock all of them eventually) but I literally can not force myself to play this game any more than I have to. I'll go ahead and throw out the nitty gritty details now:

Pros:
+ Youtube integration, which is something audiosurf doesn't have.
+ The game seems to be better at making tracks for music than audiosurf. Converting vegetarians from IM turns into an absolute cluster♥♥♥♥ on Audisurf 1's engine, keep in mind I have not played much of AS2 so I can't really compare to that.
Aaaaaaaaand that's all, now for everything else that's terrible and wrong about it.

Cons:
- The worst UI I have ever run across in any game. You'll spend a few minutes right after you start this game just trying to figure out how the hell it works.
- Untogglable bass boost. But that's ok right? MORE BASS JUST ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SHOVE IT DOWN MY THROAT GAME
- Hey you like bass right? Good thing the game kindly shakes the screen wildly around every time it comes up, which is all the time since the game just boosts it for you. Most of the times I crashed on hard(permadeath) were because the screen was moving around so much I couldn't tell what lane I was in.
- Literally every track but Retro turns into an absolute nightmare with faster songs. You are unable to see ahead of you on the track at points so things literally just jump out at you.
- overly simplified scoring system. Each block is worth 2 points. Your score is doubled if you finish the song.
- no audio settings in game, you have to turn this game down in your system's sound tray.
- 3 "difficulties" Standard (you're invincible and less obstacles and fewer beats) Zen (grandma style) and Hard (permadeath with more obstacles and beats) I wouldn't normally complain about that but since this game is literally trying to compete with audiosurf (which has a myriad of difficulties and modes to use) it's kinda meh to not have any form of puzzle mode, competitive scoring, etc. The skill cap is 100%ing a song. That's it. Nothing fancy required, just hit every note and don't crash.
- terrible control scheme. push A or D to change lanes. There is a "advanced controls" that literally just changes it to where you turn across lanes. No option for mouse controls or the amazing controller lane snapping that AS has.

Audiosurf 1 is 10 dollars. This game is 2 dollars. I have 100+ hours in Audiosurf. I barely managed to hit 3 hours in this game. I understand that this game is still being developed, they've added a cinematic mode since I got it and a few new vehicles but it's just not enough. There are just too many issues with it, occasional disconnects with the youtube service that require a full restart. Save yourself the trouble and just shell out the extra 8 bucks. You'll get a game that's just so superior to this one that it's unreal.

I really wanted to like this game, I really did. I saw the trailer for this a few months ago, and immediately wishlisted the game, I was so excited. I'd played a bit of Gothic 3 a couple years ago but ran into the brick wall that was half a billion bugs, but the idea and world design behind the game really got me going. Seeing the trailer for Elex, I saw an awesome sci-fi/fantasy game with an open world and a lot of things to do. Here is what you will actually be doing in Elex:

-Running half a million fetch quests to build up faction reputation to get armor and gear good enough so that random enemies in the overworld don't just oneshot you.
-Repeatedly dodging and swinging once or twice because your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stamina bar can only take a dodge and 2 swings before your highly trained warrior of an MC gets too tired to swing that crowbar again.
-Clunky platforming that's only saving grace is that you have a jetpack to skip a good bit of it.
-Trying to pretend that your decisions matter in the slightest. They don't.

Furthermore, the game feels like an all too common "fake open world" in which you are essentially told "hey player, you can go anywhere you want!" "Cool!" I say as I try to go find another faction instead of the first one you encounter. "No don't go there yet :)" and bam I get oneshot by a small harmless looking enemy. The game's progression and levelling system basically railroads you at the beginning of the game. You HAVE to join that first faction in order to get the gear and levels you need. Try and take advantage of that open world and you get punished for it.
