If it wasn't for Baldur's Gate 3 this would be my GOTY.

Excellent game, perfectly expanded on the first one. The game is filled with depth, each campaign/adventure will be slightly different with variant sections of the same maps and dungeons with loads of secrets so even if you come across the same dungeon on a reset you may find something you missed the first time. I found 3 secret areas in one dungeon across 2 runs, literally secrets in secrets.

The game is souls-like, as is the first, although I didn't find it too hard even starting out on Nightmare. I found it easier than the first game, but there is also Apocalypse difficulty which unlocks when you complete the game, this may be as hard as Nightmare was in the first, haven't tried it yet so not sure.

The multi-player wasn't as polished as I had hoped, I felt as though there was delay that shouldn't have existed, with enemies hitting me before their animation showed they would. I fought the same boss as a host and a client and it was noticeably more delayed as a client. If you plan to play single-player there really isn't an issue, but be warned multi-player may get a little frustrating due to the networking.

If you liked the first you will almost definitely enjoy the second, it is less brutal but the new archetype abilities and perks are super fun to mess with, enabling much more in-depth character builds than before.

Currently at the final boss of The Awakened King DLC, it is a pretty good fight so far although I guess it might be different based on what choices you made throughout the DLC. Only downside I have for the DLC so far is the length, I played 6.1 hours of it and I am currently at the final boss, although there may be dungeons I haven't seen and are definitely some items I haven't obtained, it doesn't seem like it would be more than 10 hours playtime to fully complete it. The new archetype is pretty great looking, haven't fully utilised it yet, but I can definitely see some fun builds already.

All in all, I would suggest this game (and DLC) to anyone who likes souls-like games and anyone who played the first game. It truly is one of the best games to release this year. This is also a pretty great gateway into the souls-like genre as it isn't as harsh as some of the other games in the genre.

As an original Maplestory player I can say this is very different from it, in a good way. The game is upbeat and colourful, as you may expect.

I wasn't excited for this game when I first saw it released in 2015. I decided to just give it ago without going in with much expectation, when it was released globally. To my surprise it was very fun and different without feeling like a Maplestory clone that is 3D. There are a good selection of classes that are being expanded upon. The PVP is nice, could be better.

I have yet to put anywhere near the amount of hours I have totaled in the original Maplestory, but that is because it isn't as large. The end game content isn't as long as the original, but they just released Chaos Raids making it quite a bit longer. (Have yet to play Chaos Raids)

Overall if you are a Maplestory player, you should at least try this. It is a refreshing take on the universe (Set before the black mage) that is quite enjoyable. The best part about this game is that it isn't pay 2 win like the original.

If you aren't an original Maplestory player then this is a great MMO that will surely keep you entertained for a long while to come. This game will continue to expand and become greater as time goes on. Hopefully they don't do what they did to Maplestory and riddle it with Pay 2 Win items, like cubes!
