"Dead by Daylight" as a horror: what is good and bad?
Dead by Daylight is considered one of the most successful multiplayer horror games. But is this game really that good? What spoils the player's experience more: aggressive community or no less aggressive monetization? And why is pumping in DBD actually a loot box?
It took me a while to finally play Dead by Daylight. Firstly, I was going through Back 4 Blood, secondly, I had heard a lot about the toxic DBD community. However, taking my free time for leisure and ignoring all the chats, I decided to try to play and find out what one of the most successful multiplayer horror games has to offer. DBD is positioned as a unique experience ... but how expensive will this horror cost you?
Horror Development
The basic concept of DBD gameplay is asymmetric multiplayer. Two teams — 4 survivors and 1 killer — appear in different places on the procedurally generated map. As a survivor, the player needs to repair 5 generators, escape through a gate or hatch from the killer and try to stay alive. Being a killer, you need to hunt the survivors, hang them on hooks a certain number of times to kill and not let them escape.

Since the official release of the game in 2016, the gameplay has evolved beyond the original characters of survivors and murderers. Now the game has 32 DLC, several collaborations with other games and cult franchises, a combat pass system and a store (more on it later).

What distinguishes DBD from other multiplayer horror games, including its main rival for today — Friday the 13th: The game — is how much benefit the two basic gameplay cycles working together have brought. The actions of both sides in each match do not differ in the first or fifth match; the only thing that changes over time is how users play.
