Updated review 2: (April 2023) Another couple of months have passed, so here I am to update my DBD review. According to Steam I've played another 150+ hours. Anyway, previously I mentioned something along the lines of DBD/BHVR trying to "sanitize" their game. I don't think that was quite the right wording, but I'd like to expand on that for a moment. With each new, major update BHVR attempts to refine the edges of the game; polishing the overall experience. That's what they want you to think. With previous changes like generator times being pushed to 90 seconds, now dead hard only being activated upon unhook, and circle of healing / healing in general getting a major reworked / nerf (imo). They are constantly trying to readjust the bounds to make things that, probably, weren't harmful in the scope of the game to be more streamlined with less variety. Many of your players, myself included, want real change. Game defying changes, shake ups, something. Your core gameplay is boring, bland, and uninspired at this point. Nerfing healing doesn't add or enrich gameplay, it makes people want to gen-rush, avoid the killers, and get out. Don't you want your players interacting with the killers more? Getting into chases, etc? Removing options to heal makes people less confident with their choices, causing them to stick to the objective and not stray from it. Countless matches in the last few months have boiled down to immersed survivors with zero altruism. Now that healing is changes to benefit others, I sincerely hope that changes interactions between players, but I honestly doubt it will. I've taken a pretty big break from DBD in the last few months and I think that was a good choice. Take this review as a sign that long-term players are losing interest. But let's end on some positive things, automatic bloodweb purchases are live, visual terror radius, the HUD changes with live updates are great. We've been needing QoL changes like this for literal years, but thanks for finally adding them. I guess.

Updated review: (Jan 2023) So let's, see. It's been about 7 months since I reviewed this game and I've added about 100+ hours or so. Has anything really changed to entice me to change my review? No. This game is still in a state that I find very little enjoyment. With every new update they strive to make the game more "sanitized". --- The game is going onto it's 7th year. No new game modes, no new game-play, no interesting or enticing items have been added. Nothing. This game is stale. Adding new characters / killers isn't helping at this point. The core game-play needs to be reviewed and updated. On top of all this, one of my biggest gripes is that BHVRs attempts often make no sense. So you increased the time it takes so sit on a generator from 80 to 90 seconds. Why did you do that? To discourage killers to not run regression perks and add-ons? Well guess what, that's the meta now. You've compounded the problem two fold by making the only, crappy, objective survivors have and made it more grueling. Eruption, Pain Resonance, Pop Goes the Weasel, Overcharge -- What a fun build to go against 70% of the time. ALSO (last point) the bloodweb system is sooooooo ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying. I don't care if you made things cheaper, it's still annoying AF to click through the blood web for HOURS of actual time. I am willing to bet that of my 2700 hours of gameplay, that at least 200 of it is sitting on the bloodweb clicking stuff. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ egregious.

Original review: (June 2022) Let me start of by saying, I've been through a lot of ups and downs with this game. Yes, I have thousands of hours and I do still play regularly, but here's the thing... I've unlocked almost everything. A new player jumping into this game will see nothing but a slog of unending grind to get minimal return. In its current state, I cannot recommend Dead by Daylight. In a few months when they release some major changes (not large enough in my opinion), that may be a better time to reassess the situation. For right now, however, unless you want to play and grind and play and grind, don't bother.
