The game itself is great, but it's nigh-unplayable (drops down to ~5 FPS until a computer restart) in populated towns and crashes to desktop every 1-2 hours of gameplay. Some missions past the halfway point of the game are bugged and cause soft/hard-locks.
Not to mention the lack of A-Life, broken textures/lighting issues/blurry shadows, pop-in, etc already mentioned by other reviews (which are minor issues in comparison to the game-breaking ones).

However, the devs are clearly working hard to fix many of the issues. Developing this game through multiple delays and an active war is something GSC should be proud of, and I and probably many others will change the review to positive as soon as the most egregious bugs are resolved. I've been having a lot of fun and find myself coming back for more, but it feels like a significant portion of my playtime has been spent troubleshooting issues and restarting the game, which compiles shaders for 2-3 minutes every time the game is launched. The farther I get into the game, the more the smaller things pile up, and the more egregious issues I encounter.

RTX 3070, Ryzen 5800x. 32 GB 3600 MHz, low-high optimized settings at 1440p, DLSS quality/FSR FG enabled

Edit: they fixed it (mostly)

Would be very good if they weren't trying to turn it into a live service game.

Seriously, who's idea was it to lock new content behind hours of grinding dailies and weeklies in a singleplayer game?

- Slower, more animation focused parkour compared to the first game, which takes agency away from the player and makes it feel muddy and broken up. Every animation including jumping, vaulting, climbing, and sliding slow the character and lose momentum.

- Stamina is required for everything, which makes fighting and parkour a slog to get through before you grind for stamina upgrades.

- Viral spawns everywhere. Moving makes sound, swinging makes sound, zombies hearing you makes sound, which causes virals to spawn in packs. In the first game, virals would only spawn during loud sounds, such as breaking a roof or setting off and explosive. In DL2, it seems like virals will spawn from you just standing still and doing nothing. They have an animation lock pounce which breaks up combat and causes you to avoid most fights (which is a shame considering they spent months updating it).

- Garbage balancing and progression. You can easily get weapons which outclass everything you can find in the wild from extras in the stash. There is a whole parkour combat system which I never really interacted with because it was easier just to swing a couple times rather than think about parrying or dodge timing in order to do some fancy animations which are less effective than just spamming attack.

- Way too grindy. It takes an exorbitant amount of resources to get anything in this game. All craftables have multiple levels of upgrades (most have 10), and each level requires stupid amounts of resources to get. This isn't even mentioning the live service characters, which only have a certain amount of ways to level up per day/week, and most of the new content is locked behind said grind.

- The story. Aiden babaiden will never be an endearing nickname and I have no desire to find the main character's sister nor interact with any of the characters. Everything is extremely bland and predictable.

I would really like to enjoy this game. I've come back to it multiple times and just find myself bored. It's just a shame how the company's direction has changed since DL1 and can't seem to find their footing.

To say this DLC is a disappointment would be a HUGE understatement. After SOG Prairie Fire, I was hoping that this DLC wouldn't be a repeat of Global Mobilization, but hoooo boy was I not prepared for the garbage level of quality. The map is OK at best, but the assets are terrible. All of the them are sub-GM/mod quality, and you can literally find the same items of higher quality with the CUP mod. There is a single AN-2 plane. The vehicles are passable, especially the helicopters, but the weapons feel like you grabbed some chinese-knock off toy gun out of a flaming dumpster.

Avoid at all costs, or wait till it goes on sale for sub-$3.
