The DLC is great

though as nails, visually stunning.

The game is great, you should play it.

This is the second time im reviewing The Cycle: Frontier and sadly, even tho there was quiet a large timegap between the Beta and this acctual release, i have nothing new to say and do not recommend the game to anyone.

The game is a total grind and is not challanging, neither is it fun. It looks like apex legends and plays like a combination of said game, Escape from Tarkov and Hunt Showdown, taking all their most generic systems, stripping away the unique parts and mashing them all togheter hap hazardly.
At the end of this process stands a grindfest PVPVE game that is only unique and interesting for the world it is set in and dosent know what it wants to be. Battleroyal, Survival Shooter, Micormanagment survival game.
I will go through some core aspects now.
PvP: The games pvp is dull and boring. It dosent matter how good or bad you are, the only thing that matters at time is wether the broken sound system allowes you to hear somone footsteps from 50 meters away or not, and wether you are wearing shiney blue armor or not. Peopel with better gear will take far more punishment and some of the end game weapons are wholey broken, running into anyone with this equipment is usually a deathsentence. At the same time, i personally have lost every set of green and up gear i tryed to bring into the match to consecutive game crashes that delete my entire kit, my friends couldnt even recover it.
PVE: The games PVE systems boil down to simpel fetch and kill quests. The NPC monsters at the reciving end of these quests are a nuisance and more often then not get in the way of PVP combat, are easily cheesable and dont add anything to the actual games gameplay except for target practice. The mining aspect of the game is okay but the randomness of how much a single node will provide is irritating and the only real PVE event as of now is a Meteorshower that provides "rare" materials... that nobody cares about.
Audio: The Cycles audio is horrendous. The things that are unimportant are far too loud, like dropships that fly in regularly to extract players blocking out all other sound or the screams of monsters, while acctually important sounds like footsteps are either so loud you cant tell if your enemies are 20 or 100 meters away from you, or dont happen at all because your enemies could hear you far befor you could hear them. Alot more work needs to be put into this system of sound to make them game truely enjoyable.
P2W: Pay to Win is... a contentious topic in the game. The welcome packs, ranging from 10-100€ in the steam store provide the paying players with far, far better gear then you can optain in the first 10 hours of gameplay, especially weapon wise and the fact that the games "Feedback Survey" asks for your yearly income and your spending habits is a huge red flag. Generally, options to spend real money are everywhere and its suprising you cant buy actual weapons and upgrads for your hideout outside of the welcome backs... atleast not yet. It remains to be seen how the Season Pass will work out.
Unrelated thoughts: It seems that the PR team for the game is very focused on being hyper relatabel to the community, which is cute, however it allso seems to moderators on the discord delete and shut down oppinions critical of the game (i saw this in another review, did not experience so myself). The fact that the first hotfix did not adress the gamebreaking crash and delete gear glitch is already a bad sign.

At this point i could write alot more why i dislike the game, but, i want to end things of on a positive note: I belive the game has promise and, if the right things are fixed and adress could become a very fun experience, thanks to the unique world it is set in. Bugs need to be ironed out and a better gear system then the current one has to be found to make the game fun. Sound design issues need to be reworked, preverably taking Escape from Tarkov and Hunt showdown, which the game already borrows from as better exampels and the PVE needs to be entierly overhauled, as it is a attorcious hinderence to good gameplay in its current state. All these reasons is why i currently would not recommend the cycle.

Its not really a game, its more something you turn on in the background to relax as you do something else more important. Absolutely love it tho, needs more music tho :3

After the rough start of the last weekend (19-22th. 10.18) i have finally gotten to play the game
Its a absolut blast to play. The gunplay is quit balanced, there is no gun that really outplayes any other gun, its always clear how you died and even the vehicle driving feels comfortable from the start. This game definetly has alot of potetntioal, when you can see past the rough start you'll have a blast with this game.

P.S: loading still takes a while but its deffinetly worth the wait : )
