Get it on sale and in a bundle if you can. If you are going to play with friends pick one to cash out and buy all the DLC anyone who joins their game get to use it for free. If you plan to play alone a lot look to my first statement.

Hearts of Iron 4 is a great strategy game, with recent updates and expansions it has had a lot of improvements inculcated but not limited too. Plane design, Tank design, Ship design, Non-historical path for many nation

Take control of your country and bring it to glory. Rebuild the roman empire, restore the German king to the throne, take a more active role as the USA, Bring a communist revolution to the European continent as the french.

Just get it in a bundle with as much DLC as you can as thats where most of the fun and interesting stuff comes from, you can still have lots of fun without the DLC with the lots of mods for this game. i would recommend operation Treabuchet, Just like the Simulations, and Legion studios

i say recommend, but i really mean keep it on your radar as this game has a ton of potential. don't get me wrong i have thoroughly enjoyed watching my fish thrive in tanks i build, but at the moment i feel the content of the game is lacking. they have a ton a features planned and most if not all of them sound pretty cool, such as the fish husbandry having colourful fish swim around your tank.

this is a pretty fun and intriguing game once you have learned the basics and survived your first re-election. once you consistently getting re-elect either in a new game or the same one you can start doin' dumb things such as running a oppressive dictatorship, or making a egalitarian paradise. for those starting i would start out appeasing the commuters and making them happy as they are nearly always among the biggest groups in a country make them happy while making other changes to slowly gain support from other groups

you need a game to easily design tracked vehicles? Sprocket is the game for you. Sprocket is easy to learn and easy to use, build your tanks and test them against other per built tanks or against your own designs, think you can make the Panzer or Tiger better then go right a head. Sprocket has options to add detail to your tank, you can even add flags
Sprocket is only in early access but i see a lot of potential for this game. for the right people this game will hold hours of entertainment, world builder and engineers i could see loving this game for a long time come
i will be using Sprocket for a long time to come to help with projects, and just to have fun in

The 700+ hours i have put into this game have been amazing, this game is a great story building tool, and with all the mods available for Rimworld really lets you tailor your stories, from a lowly tribe of fox people to the aftermath of a nuclear war on the planet, tho i will say through all of it most if not all my stories have ended pretty badly my colony getting overrun or a disease killing off the last of my colonists so early on this may put you off but most of these come with bad RNG and there are many triumphs that kept pushing me through the game.

there is no real way to support or hand hold new players through the learning part of their journey as the RNG is a big factor in if your colony survives or not but basics are, most powerful guns go to the most competent shooter with the least other task. in my experience this is a good way to do it. always try to keep your kitchen clean, food poisoning can be crippling to your survival

Over all it is still a great game and it helps you through the little steps in the beginning, it's interface and ui are easy to learn but the core concept is something i am sure most will be familiar with.
