It's a bodygroup, you can change bodygroup on a model with cheats on using "ent_fire !nick setbodygroup X" where X is the number of the bodygroup with the mask on, I forget which one it is, it's probably just 1, default is 0.
Otherwise though, you can decompile the mdl using Crowbar and then just change the default bodygroup to the one with the mask.

Ya, that I did, I was thinking of some ideas in my head to make it more unique though, to further warrant an alternate version. I'll try to get an alternate version out soon though without the tie bodygroup, whether I come up with any ideas or not.
