Right now, im about to cross the 1000 hours milestone for this game and i felt like writing it a little love letter disguised as a review... This is hands down the most fun i had in series, period. By now i had the chance to try them all, and yet this is the one that stuck with me the most! Of course, every entry has it's strong points: DS3 looks amazing and has a distinct fast-paced rhytim to it, so does Bloodborne, but with a way cooler coat of paint, in my humble opinion. Demons' was the progenitor of the series, and DS1 has Half Life ladders in it for some reason.
But this one.... This one is very special to me. Sadly, it's often frowned upon by some of the more elitist members of the community for being different from the first game... Thing is, i find it absolutely superior to DS1 in most aspects! From the slower, more tactical flow of the combat to the freedom you're given when it comes to building up your character and the sheer variety of ways to play, everything in this package just feels right to me.
I honestly feel that what makes it different from the previous games is exactly what makes it great! There are even some much needed quality of life changes that ended up being mimicked by BB and DS3 later on.
DS2 might just be my all-time favorite videogame, and i beg of you to give it a shot! The Scholar of the First Sin version got updated visuals + some more very welcome changes IMO (like extra slots for multiplayer, gotta love that chaos) and comes bundled with all the DLC, can't go wrong with it. Here's hoping you give it a shot and have fun!
