I can't remember the last time I've felt so compelled to see a game through. This is my first real play through of a FromSoftware game and I can't even begin to describe the feelings this game has provided. I tried the original on console a few times, but this time, maybe my 4th real try, it hit. It hit so hard.

I encourage anyone who stayed away from this series (now genre) to reconsider. Of course, it's going to be hard at times. It'll test your patience at times. However, it doesn't have to be insanely challenging all the time. Once you find a play style that feels good, there are enough tools in the game to allow you to absolutely destroy everything in your path. I'm so close to the end at the time of this review and I already know I'm going to NG+ at least once before moving on to the next. I can't wait to play the entire series. I can't wait to play the other FromSoft titles.

Again, if you haven't yet, give it a shot. It's a beautiful experience.

But, ♥♥♥♥ the Bed of Chaos.

This recommendation comes with every grain of salt that has already been thrown at this game, so I'll withhold all the negative parts. They have been well documented.

I, like many others, came back to this game after watching the show. I tried it once one release and again maybe a year or two later. Both were experiences bad enough that I disregarded this game from even my head cannon. My opinion has changed upon this third attempt. It's actually an enjoyable experience when performance is stable and you have some friends and some goals. It's pretty grind-centric up until level 50, but then everything opens up and agency appears in adequate quantity. The community is impressively inviting and most folks are just happy to see the game experience a late blossom.

Bottom line is if you like the exploratory loop of Fallout 4 and you want to do it more, maybe even with friends, then you'll probably enjoy 76. Just get it on sale imo.

Remember: Dying is fun!

Once you follow a guide to stabilize this mess of a rushed development cycle, it's the greatest game of all time. I've played this game across 3 platforms since release and I'll continue to play it once a year until the Gamebryo engine is simply too jank to run on anything anymore.

Battlefield, but good and for Chads. Buy this game, kings.

EDIT 10/20/22: There IS a vaulting mechanic, but there seems to be a grey area between max height you can jump and min height required for vaulting. And if you get caught on a ledge that meets that grey are, you’re gonna have a bad time. Still good tho.

Played only 8ish hour at time of review, but I love it. 4s are easier than 2s. Haven’t played solo yet, but I’ll being hopping back on today.

I really enjoy how the game makes you listen to your environment. You have an easier chance at hearing the enemy before you see them, both in space and on foot. It’s almost spooky to creep around with the squad and hear the clanging of enemy footsteps descending a staircase or rushing a catwalk. The suspense is real.

Only issues my friends and I have experienced so far are the obvious party matchmaking issues that have already been stated. But a simple restart of the game has solved the issue every time.

Suggestions:

- Hint window to show you some menu controls you can’t find anywhere else without a google search.

- Some sort of compass orientation while in the station/base/whatever. Some people are saying a compass to point back to your bay. I disagree. I think it’s a great mechanic to have to jot down your bay by memory and adds to the chaos when you’re low on O2 and need to navigate back to your ship in a hurry.

- Make stack splitting easier.

- Some sort of vault/climb mechanic. There are some ledges you can simply jump up to, which makes you think you can vault, until you see a ledge that looks like it was designed to be climbed up and you simply cannot achieve it. Right now my rule is, if it isn’t literally a stair step, I have to go around.

Hail Satan, this game is good.
