Patch 1.13 RELEASED

Hey guys,

The final patch for Diablo II: Lord of Destruction has been officially announced for release on 23rd March (tomorrow). This is combined with a general ladder reset and will take about 6 hours.

This is the final patch before D3 is released, so it is literally THE LAST TIME we will be able to play D2 in all its glory.

I don't really have a lot of time but I will be installing this afternoon so I can join the ladder race straight away. My account on Battle.net is "Blaice" and my character too will be called "Blaice" (Paladin of course!). We all usually play on US WEST so give us a yell if you're in the area.

Patch 1.13 announced!

Blizzard said they'd never do it - patch 1.12b being, in their words, 'Diablo II's final polish'. Now with Diablo III announced, Blizzard have decided to break their promise and release one last patch (1.13) in synchrony with another ladder reset.

Patch 1.13 will not only fix the numerous bugs that emerged from its predecessor but, most importantly, will be opened up for 'public opinion'. Basically the Diablo dev team have established a forum called ‘#1 patch note’ asking fans to submit one idea, change, or addition they’d each like to see in the new, upcoming patch.

Some have requested an update in content such as new creatures, items, and world events, while others have asked for the patch to destroy the duping, botting, and map-hacking that currently runs rife on Battle.net servers.

Apart from these (and the occasional idiot requesting the inclusion of an entirely new character or act), most have been legitimately manageable/practical, such as:

• Ability to re-spec skills
• Stash sharing
• Increase in rune drop-rate
• Standard of Heroes functionality
• Boost in unique items’ power/value
• Fair resolution scaling

The patch was set for an April (2009) release but had to be postponed with security issues arising from Warcraft III custom servers taking production precedence. As for the actual release date, it could be any time from now onward. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

I’ve recently reinstalled Diablo II in anticipation of patch 1.13. I predict this will be the last opportunity to play the classic in all its glory, at least before Diablo III rolls into town and snuffs it out.
