The server is back up and should be accessible again. Looks like it locked up during the night last night. I'm looking into why.

Zetx and I (mostly Zetx) figured out how to use his dm0.us domain to help the server have a less-stupid address.

Up until now, I've been using the No-IP.com service to use a hostname to point to our server, so we don't have to give out the straight IP address, since it could change. However, the old address (sdms.no-ip.org) is somewhat hard to remember, and dumbly branded with both No-IP's name, and the tag of my old and long-defunct Steam Group, SDMS. (If you're in it, I won't be offended if you leave it).

Additionally, No-IP lets you have only one free host, and every month I get an email with a link that I have to follow, fill out a Captcha, and click a button that says "Please don't delete my free host, pretty please", or else No-IP will delete the host record. You may remember one time, this email got filtered as spam erroneously, and nobody could reach the server for a time. I had to frantically set up the same address again. Ever since then I've been renewing sdms.no-ip.org on a monthly basis.

UNTIL NOW. Thanks to Zetty, we can have a record in his dm0.us domain point to the server instead. In case the IP of the server changes, we have a script running every 10 minutes that checks its public IP and updates Zetty's name server with our game server's new IP address. Therefore, the longest downtime we would experience in the event of an address change (but not other things) would be about 10 to 11 minutes. It's automated, tested, and working very well, and I can stop getting silly monthly emails!

On that topic, I just today got an email from No-IP saying that sdms.no-ip.org is about to expire. I will not be renewing it this time. The old host name will continue to work for about a week, and from then on, you can only get to the server at cpu.dm0.us. Change your favorites now!

Apologies for the wall of text. I just wanted to be clear with everyone what is going on, and why. I don't like making things difficult by changing names around, but moving forward, this is for the better.

Well it has been a crazy new year and so far so good. I hope the same goes for all of you as well. Got a pretty cool new job and still going to school. I hope that Blough, Scooter and the rest of you are doing good too. We have had some great times playing L4D 2 and if you are all up for it we can get another server and zombie it out for a month or 2 again.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and to say "I Hate You All'' in the most loving way is all you get outta me. Seriously, have a great time with your wifes, gf's, bf's, so's or whatever else floats your boat. Be Safe, Have Fun and I hope we will be battling again soon.
