Over the course of a few days, a small infiltration force from a combination of Darklyn, Hollard and Rosby men went inside King's Landing and eventually opened the gate.

What happened next is unclear but from what can be gathered, the remaining City Watch were besieged in Maegor's Holdfast inside the Red Keep, trying to secure vital documents and artefacts. They were under the command of Captain Rast, a Dornishman who has been Captain of the Mud Gate for over twenty years, holding out against the mob outside led by the Faith Militant and Poor Fellows.

A battle ensued and Lord Damon Darklyn was injured by the Faith Militant Commander Ser Morgan Morrigen, although was rescued when the City Watchmen sallied under the command of Rast, a commonborn man, who duelled the Knight but months of starvation and sleep deprivation proved too much for the older Rast who was defeated by Morrigen and almost killed, but the sixteen year old Lady Jeyne Hollard would then kill Ser Morrigen in single combat.

The Darklyn-Gaunt-Rosby-Hollard host combined with the remainder of the City Watch proceeded to secure the city, and it is believed that the Faith Militant were behind the original rioting inside the city.
