The Kuratong Baleleng is a gang of bank robbers, kidnappers and smugglers once established as an anti-communist vigilante group created by the military

The name Kuratong came from a name of a traditional bamboo instrument used to call villagers for a meeting or to alert them of the approach of enemies; baleleng means young lady. The Kuratong baleleng or the "darling bells" was created by the military in 1986 to inform soldiers of the rebel's presence. The group was composed of militiamen and their main task was to counter the growing influence of communist guerrillas in the provinces of Mindanao. Army Major Franco Calanog organized the group and put it under the supervision of the Philippine Army's 101st Battalion based in Misamis Occidental.
