Avenger-Class Torpedo Gunboat
The Avenger-Class Torpedo Gunboat is a heavy attack craft, designed to deliver a frightening load of ordinance at long range against unsuspecting targets. The main thing it carries is a massive torpedo, slung under the hull, cabable of attacks at immensley long ranges. The Gunboat itself is extremely fast, with a large portion of it devoted to engines, and carries various long range weapons.
The Torpedo Gunboat has a long fuseleage, under which the torpedo is slung. To the sides, are swept back wings, under which large amounts of other bombs and missiles can be carried- they also enable excellent atmospheric flight conditions. The main fueseleage is circular, with a forward bubble canopy to contain the crew and pilot. Much of this hull is composed of an extremely powerful engine, to give it a high acceleration, with smaller booster assist engines in the wings. To power this, an all up hypermatter reactor is incorporated into the hull, giving a massive energy budget.
The main weapon of course, is the Torpedo. However, various other weapons can be carried in it's place, as well as other weapons carried beneath the wings and in the hull. The main torpedo can be replaced with variety of bombs and missiles, or even carry light fighters on the external hull. Besides the main torpedo, there are also smaller missiles under the wings, used to target enemy ships and fighters. These too can be replaced with bombs, making it an incredibly potent ground attack bomber. Further defenses include a variety of lasers and energy torpedoes, set in turrets and the wings. The overal weapons loudout is most suitd to long range attacks, although it's heavy defenses make it cabable of surviving heavy enemy punishment.
These defences include some incredibly tough shields, which are possible with the huge energy budget, a highly advaned EW cabability, and thick armor on the main hull. In fact, the shields are strong enough to function both as ray, and particle shields, which gives an immense boost to survivability. The main foes of the Gunboat are enemy fighters, and enemy point defence. Although the shields and armor means it can take some damage, it is still unadvisable for the gunboats to attack an unshaken and unprepared enemy formation at close range, or to fly to close to enemy fighter swarms. However, the powerful onboard weapons load gives it at least some chance of survival, until it can hyperjump away or reach friendly forces.
