How do I walk/explore/change characters?

Yet again ignored...

This is my second attempt after years and still I couldn't proceed after the first story. Because, none of the buttons on the controller didn't work and got stuck after the first part. I am surprised there is no entry about this and I am the only one having a same issue after years with totally different headsets.
