Not perfect by any means, but it's still another great installment from Deck13 and a very decent souls-like title at the same time.

With a few new things added (directional parry, vendors), modified (the implant system), or removed (weapon proficiency), it looks like the devs are still looking for the perfect formula for The Surge's gameplay.

It must be noted that many of the game elements have been improved over the first part. The level design is visibly better - it’s not a claustrophobic maze of the same-looking corridors anymore. All the locations are bigger, more intuitive, and actually diverse as the game takes place in different areas of a post-apocalyptic city, instead of just one big abandoned facility.

With the introduction of new weapons, armor parts, implants, drone modules, and set bonuses, as well as new enemy types (including ranged), the player can use even more valid strategies to win.

The story is not the game’s strongest feature and it shouldn’t be considered as a main reason to play The Surge 2. However, the gameplay loop is just fine even if the player skips all the dialogue and focuses on mindless, yet super satisfying enemy annihilation.
