I feel like $400 a bit too much of a paywall for many indie developers looking for an engine. Why would I use this over other free yet powerful engines like Unity, Construct2 etc?

Do i have to buy GameMaker Studio 2 desktop to use GameMaker Studio 2 Mobile ? Or is it just enough to buy GameMaker Studio 2 Mobile?

I specifically asked about this in a help ticket with my official purchase on the site and I was told that they were all one program but the licenses would open up. Why are they seperate on steam?...
