Overview
Far Cry 5 is an open world first person shooter and another (excellent in my opinion) entry in the beloved Far Cry Franchise, which finally got Steam Achievements! (only took Ubisoft to nearly go into bankruptcy to consider that) And while I’m aware that many players don’t care for Achievements, I still felt its worth mentioning.
But now to the actual game!

Story
Far Cry 5 takes places in a fictional part of Montana called Hope Country in which a religious cult called Edens Gate has the full control over the law, law enforcement, communication and its citizen, with a mix of brainwashing and brutal authority. You take on the shoes of a Rookie cop that accompanies an U.S. Marshall and a local Police Chief on a Mission to arrest the leader of the cult. But of course, this goes horribly wrong, you get overwhelmed and barely escape capture.
While I obviously don’t want to spoil the story, I personally like the different characters and villains a lot and their individual personalities and goals. It’s often over the top in classic Far Cry manners, but that is part of the charm of these games.

Gameplay
FC5 plays like most open world games, which is in no means a bad thing. The map is divided into 3 large areas, which you can freely explore and take missions in. Each of the 3 region has their own cult leader and each deal with a different approach to subjugate the local population. With following the main story and taking on the countless side missions and quests or by just destroying cult property you build the resistance movement in each region and ultimately have a spectacular showdown with the main villain of the area.
Far Cry 5 removed most of the tower climbing from the older games, which you can either like or dislike. There isn’t a system to replace that, but you can find many prepper stashes for example with hints you can find in the world, which always offer good rewards. I feel like that is one of their attempts to replace the towers, which works alright, since each of them is hidden behind a small puzzle.
I really enjoyed exploring the areas, taking on all the quests, of which many are quite over the top and you get the “yep this is a far cry game feeling”, expanding my arsenal of weapons and collecting and crafting my consumables.
Thankfully there are still many outposts to conquer which is one of my fav activities in these games.

-Good balance on the difficultly levels
-Steam Achievements finally!


Graphic/Audio/Tech
The game still looks fantastic, especially the nature is so well designed. I sometimes just walked through the dense forest or stood on mountain sides and just enjoyed the world for its beauty.
I got no complains about the general sound design and sound track, its all-top notch.
Beside two game crashes in loading screens, I had no bugs or anything else in regards of technical issues.

Final Thoughts
Far Cry 5 is one of the best in the Series, the open world is huge and detailed, the story and side missions are fun and there is just so much to do.
Rounded up with a good story about religious extremism and a huge variety of main and side characters, FC5 is a must play for every fan of the Series and I can highly recommend the game in general to anyone that enjoys open world first person shooters.
