Returning back to the time when COD was still good and not just an R-rated Fortnite. This was the final COD before everything turned bad—excellent graphics, a great campaign, and multiplayer.

OK, to start I don't do multiplayer so this is about the campaign and I got this for $20.00 so for that price I guess its decent at best.
But here's why I hate CoD.
It takes 3 to 4 30-06 rounds to kill a guy. . . are you kidding me?
AI teammates couldn't kill a fly if they wanted to.
Tank controls are absolute garbage.
Continuity errors in weapons, like, why are the Germans carrying Soviet weapons en mass?
The stereotypical German bad guys are just atrocious and their accents are so over done.
The levels feel like a remake of a bunch of the other CoDs.
The "platoon" never looks at anyone but like, 4 people maybe 5, so we don't care about anyone else. Platoons even in modern day are about 36+ depending on attachments Etc. so what about the other 30 dudes.
Again, for $20 I guess I got what I paid for.

I don’t know how to say it correctly, I will of course keep it for myself, but I would like you to read the reviews before purchasing. The game is difficult even at the minimum level, also impossible to control for me.

Pretty mid characters and story flow. Keyboard/mouse controls for vehicles are TRASH especially the tanks. Teammate AI is Awful. It makes you feel like "the hero" just because you have to do 90% of everything for the team. Also makes me hate them for getting in the way, letting enemy pop up behind/next to me out of nowhere, and repeating the same lines OVER and OVER.

Absolute ♥♥♥♥ port. The QTEs make playing the game on PC impossible. Huge rip off even when discounted.

This game is great, I love the campaign, and the realistic maps. But it is so inaccurate. In the Liberation mission the base you infiltrate has lights that shoot to the sky saying "Hey we are the main enemy base come and get us!!" And the soldiers in the D-Day mission that a German have PP-SH guns but most of them were edited differently and way to many of them are using them. And there is to much gore from one single shot. I don't think a German helmet would fly off like it's having a seizure from one shot in the head. Why?

I was going to get this game during the last sale, then saw it was already in my library.
Wrote down that I should play it sometime soon, after all I got it in my inventory, right?
I look at it within my own library…
I see that I have 37% of the achievements unlocked - and that I completed the campaign.
Honest to God I have no memory of ever playing this game.
Some vague insinuations of the D-Day level were in my mind, but that was mostly from the promotional materials - I remembered seeing a video about the trainwreck scene - but I have absolutely no recollection of engaging with the game myself.
And yet, I’m sitting here looking at the fact that I've evidently played it for 10 hours?
10 hours?!?!

I booted it back up in disbelief - and suddenly, the repressed memories began crawling up my spine and back into the passenger seat of my conscious thoughts.
Unskippable cutscenes, lame melodrama, drab story, stiff combat, jank controls, awkward health system, earnest-but-sloppy squad command.
Just replaying a little of the campaign makes it all come flooding back.
The strangest thing is - as the memories returned, I recall everything being OK. Coming back, it’s OK I guess but - there’s something off that I cannot easily describe.
The dialogue is mid, the combat is mid, the presentation is mid, everything is… mid!
The core aspects kind of blend together with all of the other generic WW2 FPS games out there - some new and many old.
All the talk between characters is smarmy and full of quips - like a Disney/Marvel writing team tried to turn one of the most grim and inhuman conflicts in the earth’s history into a plucky family adventure. (in spite of all the grotesque violence) It’s grating.
It’s all so mid - it becomes something even worse than mid, even for spunkgargleweewee.
The fact that I couldn’t remember actually playing the game is all you really need to know, but there is more to digest, which came back rather quickly during my revisit.

Setpieces are clunky and forgettable, and the game takes control away a lot. A LOT
You walk to a certain place to get shot at and take a few hits. Then you are forced to watch a mini cutscene (you may not skip) and cannot move during. You are given a task and must do it exactly as the game demands or perish. Enemies line up to be shot as you are commanded to shoot them. Then a new thing happens, so hands off the controls, time to watch the game play itself again. Time to do another menial job for a long time for no reason. It’s not even interactive entertainment, it is ostensibly as static as a movie. It doesn’t want you to play the game in any way other than what it dictates each and every moment.
For example: The entirety of the D-Day opening is: 2 minute unskippable cutscene, 2 minute interactive cutscene, move up, watch a cutscene, go where the waymarkers indicate when the game tells you to and how the game tell you to or you die, watch the animation, go where the game tells you to go without delay, shoot the enemies that are lined up to block you, follow the waymarker, do the things or die.
Even on regular difficulty, the game has no problem spelling your demise if you are in the wrong place, do the wrong thing, or harbor a free thought in your little head. It’s drab and lifeless in spite of the bombastic and inglorious setting.

I then took a quick peek at the Zombies and Multiplayer…

The campaign is 90gb… wha- where is all of that data going, to the graphics? It’s not even in the same client/application as the multiplayer. Downloading both separate executables soaks up a hefty 177 GIGABYTES on your storage space!

I just went back and watched gameplay on YouTube
It would seem that the entire world promptly forgot about the zombies and multiplayer of this game quickly as well.
After watching some footage and hearing just a little bit about it…
Hard pass. It’s dead anyway.
Not even a factor of the purchase at this point.

I honestly played a few minutes of the story - two levels in total - but lacked the stomach to push further. It just wasn’t good enough to be a justified use of my time - even if I’m playing games.
I remember now-antiquated games from the 90’s about WW2 with greater clarity and fondness than this game.
Before booting it up again today, I remembered YouTube videos about it more than the game itself!
The game of Call Of Duty: WWII is an inferior experience overall to watching its own trailor.
Let that sink in.
Promotional material and video essays about the game are more memorable than the game itself

To be forgotten is an inevitability for almost everything - to be truly forgotten is akin to death itself. Forgotten experiences, truly forgotten experiences, don’t value or benefit the lives of anyone, as their impact on the lives of others is nonexistent. For when an act cannot be recalled, it cannot change even the smallest aspect of our lives for better or worse.
It is the same as not existing, but worse because effort and value was put into generating that experience.
As if Sledgehammer released the game, and after you play it - it’s like Papá Julio from Coco is the experience, and it fades away into vapor once everyone forgets it - which is almost instantly.
When something is forgotten, truly forgotten, it has no value - and there is no frame of reference capable of generating a value for it. When something cannot be remembered, it is useless beyond even the graces of novelty or sentiment.
The value of a work that is forgettable is not nothing, it is less than nothing.
A forgettable work is not the absence of life, it is the death of a life that was never worthy enough to be mourned.

Call Of Duty: WWII is a Bad game.
Something so mid that it collapses in on itself and becomes worse than mid - it’s an anomaly of “bland” that quantum tunnels into the realm of garbage.
You will legitimately have no memory of this experience after playing this game; playing it is effectively the same as never playing it - so why even bother?
