does crossbow guy hate his other bothers has issues needs glasses

I'm starting to feel like I've hit a difficult wall with my progress in the game. I get a solid retinue of bros together and can mostly handle regular fights, but even then I'll often just end up losing a bro or two when outnumbered. Then when I start feeling strong enough to take on bigger contracts, I'll go into a fight against some Unholds or another mercenary party and just get rocked and lose 3+ bros at once. How do you play this game and not get your butt, handed to you. My question now is: Is there a way to play this game and enjoy it. It seems like every-time I choose a scenario I am wiped out in the first mission. The game seems absolutely amazing and I would love to play it like everyone else is but I can't seem to get it going. Is there any suggestions for me. what is sad is I own the game and all DLCs because I like to support these types of games and small studios....

After returning to the game and trying out again, things seemed to be going well until day 35 I got a goblin ambush and one of my frontline bro got instant killed in the first round of combat..
