An incomplete masterpiece

Evidently cut short by Konami, the narrative felt lackluster at certain points of the story, yet the plot twists made up for it. Gameplay wise it's easily the smoothest I've seen in a long time, for a 2014 game. FOX Engine needs to be further exploited. Now give us Chapter 3 you insolent pieces of---

The first mission makes You watch a guy's naked arse, and then pee himself. And somehow it gets better later on.

Kojimbo played me like a damn fiddle and I absolutely loved it.

I wanted to love this game but it's clearly unfinished, both story and gameplay, to start with the good things: The overall gameplay is the best in the series HOWEVER it's not as detailed and interesting like MGS3 for example where you could individually destroy the enemy's communication devices by shooting the radios on their chest. It only has the best character control and it's easy to use, as well as the box but that's all. For some reason, in multiple instances, Snake cannot jump over a waist high wall/rock or even a knee high wall/rock, it's giving GTA 5 restrictions where the game wants you to follow a strict path and throw out every variety you thought you had, for example, i couldn't walk over a hill for some reason despite the fact that it looked perfectly like every other small hill in the game and it pushed me to walk into the Skull Unit which killed Miller and ended with me failing the mission (it was the first mission btw) Snake suffers from leg pain apparently.

The story is a complete mess that constantly lies to you and you never know what is going on, this is in fact a thing that i like about Metal Gear but V does it horribly, if you don't have at least 2 hours to throw away by sitting in a helicopter and listening to tapes (that you have to unlock btw) you will get about 10% of the story which is CRIMINAL, you already have long cutscenes that slowly play out, might as well put dialogue, Koji ended MGS4 with a 72 minute cutscene come on. Koji also gave the boot to David Hayter who is infamous as the English voice of Snake, only to replace him with Kiefer Sunderland that has awful voice acting skills, no range and he also messed up his fist line in Ground Zeroes, his first ever line at the start of the game, and why did he do that? Only because Kiefer Sunderland works at Hollywood, not because he's good at his job. Kojima will dig his grave this way since he doesn't like talent, he likes hollywood and that perfectly reflects Death Stranding and the awful characters.

It only has like 15 missions that actively progress the story in a game which has 50 missions and even those 50 missions aren't even new ones, past one point you are given the exact same mission but with a modifier like Total Stealth or Extreme and the repetitive nature grinds your gears, pun intended.

The characters aren't that interesting, Miller and Ocelot appear once a full moon and only to spit lies and the truth you get, once again, in tapes. Skull Face was by far the most interesting of all, his idea of global deterrence where he has the control resonated with me for some reason, it's like putting the boot into the mouths of countries that see you as cannon fodder and exploit you dry, forcing them to lick the "power" that Skull Face gives them, while in reality that power doesn't exist and if you try to use it, He pulls the plug and you're worthless, meanwhile, giving the suppressed countries the power to stand up to the suppressors, or the illusion of power, total deterrence. Tretij Rebenok and Man on Fire were by far the most intriguing of all, both of them never spoke and and had mind numbing power and presentation and who their identities made you gasp if you played MGS1 and 3. Quiet is by far the worst character, never speaks even though she can? Cannot speak english because of the parasites but what made you unable to speak German? French? Russian? Hell Ocelot knows Russian since it's his mother tongue, go on girl ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, cannot write either? sign language? Oh you know Navajo? Come on then, speak, Code Talker can translate but nooooo, you need Snake to be dying for you to open your mouth and even then, the parasites are harmless...YOU HAVE NO LUNGS, GIRL COME ON, Koji really went above and beyond to make her mute for the dumbest of reasons, then completely forget about the alternatives and guess what? It never worked in the first place, this dude made an essay on why and how, it is completely necessary for the plot to have Quiet wearing a Bikini and show her assets in the most unnecessary ways possible. Don't get me wrong, i like boba just like the next guy but don't shove it in my face every 2 seconds when i'm managing the Mother base staff (which is crucial to the continuation of the story).

The open world is big and empty, most of it is unused and the outposts lack the complexity of the old games, Groznij Grad was full of cameras, personnel, guard dogs, you name it while OKB Zero (the biggest base in the game) is small and has 3 cameras total, the only + that V has is the power generators

The game tries to be mysterious and deep but ends up being time consuming, shallow and dumb. And it doesn't help that most of the fandom buy that Kojima said it's finished as intended, he only said that to not antagonize his relationship with Konami which was falling apart quicker than Chinese buildings, and also because he couldn't "hate" on the game when the company wanted money out of it since they barely released it at that time.

But at some point, the story just stops and all the new levels in the 'main mission' category start looking just like the 'side mission' levels. You can unlock a ridiculous number of toys. Way more than you can carry into a mission. So past a certain point, you're just trying out things for fun, not advancing the story.
Its really really fun. I don't understand why they couldn't make a DLC and finish MGS5 off proper.
