Can't believe I haven't reviewed this game yet. A Story about my uncle is a wonderful narrative story / adventure platformer. My review really doesn't do the story justice, as I tried to keep it somewhat reasonable while still conveying the beautiful story told here so I highly recommend picking it up on sale or something to play through and experience yourself. Story spoilers ahead: In A Story About My Uncle, you go through the story of how a young boy, now man, has finally come to acceptance with his uncle's death. Initially I thought this was the case due to some parts of the story and how they felt, however you can actually find text throughout the game written in the Stray language that lists the mc's journey through grief. Throughout this story our main character introduces his uncle as a man who loves adventuring, who had been gone for a very long time. we eventually get launched to a land of fantasy, within a large cave full of floating islands and remnants of what appears to be our uncle's travel gadget suit. We traverse the caves and meet Maddie, our the mc's likely subconcious self-insert, a Villager who loves invention and tinkering, but isn't allowed to use the tools they want. We recieve her help to decipher the messages on the walls that are hints as to how to travel through the caves, and can see her book for a short while in order to decipher the hidden messages as well. Eventually, we leave the caves with Maddie on our back. The adventure through the caves was the showing of Denial, where he believed his uncle to be somewhere else (this fantasy world), Isolation (we were on our own in the chasms for a long time), and Anger (Maddie had expressed anger at the village people for not allowing her to tinker and show off her talents).We emerge to see a village in the clouds named Star Haven, built on floating islands with flying windmills and ships, all powered by the crystals that seem significantly more abundant in the village. here we find a pair of rocket boots, laid out and visually seeming almost built for us, as it doesn't even seem to fit the shape of the frog-people's feet. We continue through the village, finding hints as to the wherabouts of our uncle (Fred), before finally coming to an airship taking us to the icy mountains. here, Maddie decides that she wishes to stay with the Strays, they accept her for who she is and she realizes that she was never looking for Fred, she was looking for acceptance. Throughout this sequence we can find Bargaining, I believe this to be pointing to the fact that Maddie didn't know what she really wanted, and had decided that being with people who accepted her was enough, that she didn't need to go find Fred, and deciding to stay with the strays instead of continuing on her journey. Now we board an airship to the ice caves, a one-way trip. We adventure through the caves, finding remnants of an older civilization before the ice-age, with text in the Stray language between people, as well as finding remnants of our uncle being there recently, with emergency flares lighting areas and campfire remnants around. We eventually stumble onto a small camp, with flames still smoldering, where we fix our not-so-long-ago broken rocket boots with some left behind tools. This is a key point that leads me to believe Maddie is a subconcious mirror to our main character, while not a strong tie, she's the only character in the game we see or are aware of outside of Fred and the main character that do any tinkering of that level. Shortly after we find Fred, our uncle. We talk with Fred for a short while, explain how we miss him and how Maddie wants to see him again. Fred tells and shows you that he was working on a pad to return home, but thinking about Maddie and the frog people made him realize that, he wanted to stay, he liked his life here, and it was a place he could continue to journey with his big adventures. He talks about how he doesn't believe the pad will live more than one use anyways, and decides to send you back. You stand on the pad, and get sent into the sky, the same way you got to that place, an action symbolizing the main characters acceptance. If you stick around after the credit sequence that plays you get put into an after-credit, where you walk around the same house you walked through in the beginning, but now everything's packed up, our character is noticably taller as he's now an adult, and he's monologuing. We learn that his house had been virtually untouched, some of his stuff had been packed away and cleaned up, but many of his adventure stuff was still out and about decorating the upstairs room, though the addition of a shrine had been made in honor of Fred. we walk through, past the slightly glowing blue locker that we had found our adventure suit in, through a blast door airlock, into the observatory room. we hold out a picture, of us and our daughter, with the entire monologue written on the back, a note to Fred. we hold it up and out, and let the wind carry it into the night sky, the same way our uncle was carried when he moved on to his next big adventure that he was to never return from.

I'm curious, do most of you play with controller or mouse?

I started to play on my Steam Deck with Gyro on. Got to the Ice Caves after the falling blocks. But then I couldn't do any more. It's just seems to slow in some cases and if I made the controller faster my aim would go off. So I tried on mouse and keyboard, wow whata difference. It's evem kind of relaxing. Finished it in one go. So easy compared to controller. My brother also on a Steam Deck controller just gave up in the ballon sky section. The aiming with the mouse is so easy. First-Person Perspective Platforming games aren't my thing, and the story isn't that good. It can be quite enjoyable at some point, but I wouldn't consider it worth playing. Good thing it's fairly short.
