I've owned a Quest 3 for about 6 months now, and recently received a Logitech G29 racing wheel with pedals.

Having tried out some of the recommended titles like Arsetto Corsa, iRacing and Project Cars 2, this is by far the most accessible racing sim of the lot.

I'm not a complete stranger to racing sims, having spent some time with Forza 2 and Gran Turismo in the past. However I am more comfortable with more arcade-like racing games like GRID and NFS. The racing wheel is also a very different experience, and there is definitely a learning curve to all of this.

Automobilista is still challenging, and I am only just starting to get comfortable with the slower tier cars. But the racing feels good without there being too much of a barrier to entry. The force feedback feels great (I generally tweak mine down a bit so the steering wheel doesn't feel as stiff).

Cars handle well, and when I make a mistake or spin out (which happens often) I usually understand what I did wrong. Some of the other titles mentioned earlier felt much less intuitive, and I often left feeling like I didn't understand why the car responded that way, or that a real car wouldn't have done that.

VR support is not the best out of the group, but it works and doesn't require much setup to feel right. My setup is a 3.4GHz core i7, 32GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 3080. I run most settings fairly high and switch off AA in VR. The results are reasonable, with no lag or artefacts. As always this an area that is very dependant on personal preference and specs.

My biggest complaint is the lack of career mode. Something I enjoy from games like NFS, GRID, Forza 2, GT etc. is a mode with progression and an economy where you buy cars. Would like to at least see some sort of career mode introduced in the near future. The DLC seems very optional, with a lot of content in the base game.

Overall, I'd recommend this if you're not sure which top racing title to buy, or if you've had a bad experience with one of the other titles being too hard.

As of the latest update, when I jumped in, I think the FFB and physics are bland compared to every other serious sim. It feels to me like you drive with the throttle pedal. If you have coasting understeer, just throttle it to oversteer. Every single car seems to do this. And the physics feels like a console game with controller driving help. It's too easy all the time until it's too late and you can't do anything about an almost scripted spin out. There's almost no variation between any type of car. The FFB and physics just feels "shallow". That is just my opinion.

Phenomenal race sim, especially since the November '24 update.
