Hello everyone!

For the first time since its announcement, Overboss is getting its first devlog ever! This wonderful game is a part of the Steam Next Fest this week so today, we want to focus on how it went from a board game to a video game project. Here we go!


The idea was born during a board game time on a Sunday afternoon and Johann, Goblinz CEO has a fond memory of it. So, we just asked him how it went that day!

“As the director of a video game development studio, I was playing with my daughter during the Christmas holidays back in 2021. My brother-in-law had given me a box of Overboss, knowing that I was a fan of their previous game, Boss Monster.

While I was playing the physical game's campaign mode, I remember doing a lot of tile management, and I immediately thought it would work well as a video game.

From that point, I reached out to the creators, Brotherwise Games, on Twitter and to my surprise, they told me they had played our game, Legend of Keepers, during their holidays! We quickly came to an agreement and I talked to our partner Tavrox Games who helps us on many projects.

Development could only begin in June 2022 as the Tavrox Games team was working on the DLCs for Legend of Keepers, but we now have a demo to enjoy the game!”


Some news and informations on Overboss!


First of all, we had to talk about the new demo! For a proper Steam Next Fest celebration we decided to dive into the Overboss experience itself by uploading a demo for everyone. It’s always the best way to have your feedback and improve based on it.

Right now, public games are not open yet but you can always create a private lobby to challenge your friends and see who is the true boss!


As a wise person once said, choose your fighter! Choose your Boss to fight with, each with special powers, to build the best dungeon and vanquish your opponents. Who will get the highest score?


Each turn, you'll draft one tile and token set from the Market. Place the tile in an open spot of your map. Every terrain type is scored differently! Of course, terrains synergy between each other, Swamps get Power points for being adjacent to coasts and other Swamps for example. The goal is to build the best dungeon possible, the tile management is key to score high points!

Every tile comes with a token. If it's a monster or Miniboss token, you put it on top of an open terrain tile. A monster with a matching icon scores a bonus point, and "bands" of monsters - lines of two or more in a row - give bigger bonuses.


Good tile management, smart dungeon building and monsters will be the key to reach one goal : get the highest score!
