Can't fly to meet James if can't see planet names?

So I eventually figured out how to actually fly to the planet, talked to the guy, and left the planet with no idea how to even find where I was supposed to go. There didn't seem to be any map indicators, or a log with coordinates, or anything at all. I also accidentally ate an entire asteroid without knowing what happened (the asteroid just said "pull", since I had apparently unknowingly selected it), and then I had -7 boxes (inventory space, I think), and was totally unable to move at all, and couldn't f...
